Photo Monday - Free

I just finished my nieces gifts. Teens are so hard to buy for I usually do cash but this year I came up with the following idea. I took plain cotton tote bags and "personalized" them with fabric paint. The girl's names are in the upper left but hidden as SFF will reject the photo otherwise. I filled them with the fun girlie things (nail polish, tee shirts, phone cases, fancy undies etc.). After the gift is "unwrapped" they will have a bag to carry things in or can add it to their reusable grocery bag collections. The bags have the same design becasue my nieces are identical twins but in different colors so they can easily find theirs.

The idea is equally useful for boys with a change of design and contents the guys like. Works well for adults as well. I usually give my sisters home made tamales for Christmas and will make appropriate bags for that this as well

Personalized bags are unique gifts. Do you want a nephew?

Thank you. I am fortunate to have teen age nieces who actually like being around me - especially since we all wear the same size and have the same tastes in clothes.

If you can come and get them! When my daughter lived in Germany she missed Christmas tamales so much I had to send her the stuff to make them with becasue they don't sell it there.

Not sure about treasuring them since kids don't get that part yet but I know they will enjoy them.

The good part is that they can be filled with whatever things the individual likes.

The symbol on the bags is the goddess - becasue we all know teen age girls are "goddesses"

I'd do OK size wise becasue the girls, their mother and I all wear the same size but it is more fun to shop for the girlie things.

I love the idea, Spirit. Great when kids outgrow stockings. I can see the fun in putting them together also. Something you can work on all year long. Homemade tamales, sigh. There was a mother at the school where I used to teach. She sold her tamales every Friday morning at school. I love tamales. But it has been a long time since I have had any as good as hers. I make other Mexican food well, but never did learn how to do tamales. So thanks for the memories. My taste buds are working overtime right now.
I did stockings for the kids into adulthood. My youngest was a mom herself and we were still doing them. Mostly fun, joke stuff but always good for laughs. I guess the tote bags are kind of an extension of that. One year my dad played a joke on a neighbor by filling a pair of panty hose with everything imaginable we could round up and hanging it in her doorway while she was out.
