Battling the Scale

I know we all have issues with the scale. Mostly we don’t like what it has to say. I have my own unique problem though.

While I have never been a fanatic about weight gain like everyone the years have a tendency to add pounds. I try my best to avoid this. I stopped worrying about cosmetics years ago but I have significant arthritis and weight and inactivity are its greatest enablers. Add this to the fact that almost all of my father’s family has type 2 diabetes and controlling my weight is a health essential. I found that for me daily weigh ins and small immediate eating adjustments work best and eliminate the need for strict dieting. While I like healthy food it is so easy to overindulge and yes, there can be too much of a good thing. For me it is a matter of overall quantity not types of food. As a niece used to tell my mother-in-law “just because it’s good does not mean you have to eat it all.”

It is an established fact (measured on a meter) that my personal energy field is significantly stronger than normal. This causes all sorts or disruption to electronic things. I am one of the biggest the threats to cell phones. I have never been able to keep any sort of watch working. On occasions of extreme emotion I have even effected the electricity in the house.

Today most scales for home use are electronic. In the past I would get one, use it for a while, then it would “go crazy” so I thought it was “worn out” and replaced it. Since I share a household these days I am not the only one who does the daily weigh ins. Initially the scale worked just fine. It would mess up when the battery needed replacement or it was off balance but it progressed to messing up for me 2 out of 3 attempts. I get on it; it goes through some numbers then shows a bunch of dashes and says ERROR. It works just fine for Chuck and my granddaughters.

Leaves me wondering – should I search out an old fashioned mechanical scale, go to the feed store and get weighed on an industrial scale, or simply list my weight as ERROR?

Oh yes, you need to visit the feed store. I weight myself twice a day, morning and evening. Just to keep in touch with an fluctuations.

I have had a similar problem over the years, watches would stop within 15 minutes of me putting them on, but they seem to work for awhile then if I leave it lay a few days it starts again??? I can not use the digital blood pressure wrist cuff , it does the same as you scale does.
Get one of the old fashion dial scales that should solve the problem..I think they have them a Family Dollar & Dollar General Stores if you have one near you.

Weight and charge (read personal energy field) have never been a problem here. The problem has been far too much of external stimuli affecting me adversely while I seem to recover quite well from the injuries/shocks/traumas that I end up inflicting on myself (and enjoy, it seems).

Some like you are blessed with personal energy; Poet_dancer had posted a blog on aura - I am sure yours would be a pure purple or a magenta halo.

Have a wonderful weekend.

That would probably work here as the feed store is just down the road and I have to go past it to get anywhere. Now if I ride my bike there daily that would really be a plus.

Actually I do have a pair of jeans I use for that purpose. Works really well to monitor the range of acceptable weight.

Like I told grouch the feed store is just down the road and I have often thought about stopping in. When I was growing up on the farm they had a large scale in the barn, one of the old fashioned ones that you actually put weighted disks on. We kids used to think it was so fun. Not sure what they use these days though.

Keeping track is important at our age, particularly for anyone who takes meds (and don't we all).

Too funny. One of those scales would likely scare many of us into eating better.

That thought has crossed my mind. With those scales you can adjust for needed corrections. I used to have one several years ago and set it by comparing it to what I weighed at the gym.

I too have a problem with the scale, it lies, it shown more pounds than I know I could not possible weigh....I am sort of careful in what I put in my mouth, well...for the most anyhow...should loose 25 pounds, I really should...
Oh yes, another problem - scales all lie and so do our jeans. Another of life's inequities. When we reach a point where we can actually relax and enjoy our food instead of gulping something between this and that our bodies start using less and storing more.

I have never tried the foot first thing. Will see if it helps. I have neither a good sense of body image nor any real sense of if I am hungry or anxious so monitoring is indicated for me.

It it were cosmetiv only I would love to just stay away from the scales but my joints just won't take any extra weight and I do not want diabetes like my dad's family so it's the scales and Jan's idea about keeping something that fits snugly around for comparison fitting.

I find it easier to manage my weight if I keep on top of it a pound at a time. Otherwise it will creep up on me. Of course I suspend the watch when I am traveling or enjoying a break from the routine.
