A Burro by Any Other Name

last night we had dinner at a funky little local place on the beach. There was no one there but us and a few locals so we got tons of attention from the manager and staff. So fun as I got to practice my Spanish (they spoke some English) I love conversations with people who speak a little English. My Spanish is not the greatest so as we both try our best we both learn. I am always amazed at how much people enjoy it when "foreigners" at least try to speak the local language even if we murder it.

Our table was literally on the beach in the sand. Since it is adjacent to one of the larger public beaches vendors pass by all of the time selling various things. One came by selling bracelets, necklaces etc. with names on them. Entire conversation in Spanish, I said no thank you. He suggested I could get one for my dog. I explained no dog. He asked about my cat also. I said no, cat is too fat and furry. Then he asked about my burro. I burst out laughing and looking at Chuck "replied no burro but I do have a Jack AZZ" in English. He burst out laughing too. Apparently he understood that word in English. We shared a bit more conversation half in one language and half in the other just enjoying the fact that we could communicate.

Life is indeed living it and you are doing just that.

I agree with 1gasilverhead2 - "this thing called life is not a dress rehearsal."

Have a wonderful day(s) tomorrow(s) too.

I know the feeling I was fortunate to live in Germany for three years. We often had parties where there were several people without a common language. We always managed to get our point across and enjoy the moment.

Always do. It is impossible to be in Puerto Vallarta an not have fun. That is what this place is all about in spite of the bad press Mexico gets in the US

The Canadians here always joke about going to Mexico is dangerous becasue they have to come through the US to get there!

It definitely isn't - which is why I am here playing in the sun and enjoying the very friendly natives.

Thank you - I do live life - too much sometimes but my philosophy is that we have to take every opportunity when it presents becasue once it is gone it is gone.

I got to spend some time in Germany as well last century. Language is such a different experience in Europe as most people speak 2 - 3 languages which makes it even more fun to communicate. Even now I occasionally find myself coming out with an Italian word instead of Spanish becasue the 2 languages are so similar. The really interesting part is that I haven't spoken Italian since I was a child and pretty much forgot it other than a word here and there but when my brain searches for a Spanish word an Italian one I didn't know I knew pops up.

I agree. I think we could be dropped in an area not knowing a word in common and still communicate.

Don't you find it fascinating how easy communication is when we really want to do it and how complicated we can make it (as seen on here) when the intent is otherwise.
