The Inequities of Underwear

One of the great inequities between the sexes is underwear. Years ago I went to pick my up from the babysitter. She was out shopping and husband was watching the . He was having difficulty understanding why she had to go shopping for underwear since all he did was order a couple of packages from the Sears catalog once a year of so.

I forgot all about this until AnneMac’s trivia question of the day a couple of days ago. Men doing laundry. Chuck does help with laundry and as long as it is not whites can manage most of it but he is at a total loss over underwear. Like my baby sitter’s husband he buys his in bulk packages. The only reason they are even different colors is that is how they come in the package.

We ladies on the other hand have a much more complex issue with underwear. Colors to go with outfits, must match or coordinate with bras, different styles for different kinds of clothes to avoid panti lines, different kinds of materials so different types of clothing will “hang right”, very comfy ones for the gym and so on.

When anticipating the situation might get romantic women are likely to have blown a days pay at Victoria’s Secret. I still hear one of my neighbor’s mother advising “be sure your bra and panties match” as she left for a cross country flight to visit her boyfriend. Men on the other hand? Hopefully theirs are clean and not worn out because they never give it a thought.

And they question why we spend so much time shopping and getting dressed………………

For men, they just about have to be the right size, SpiritGirl; in my case, they were, at a certain time when my workout sessions were rather heavy, needed to guard against onset of inguinal hernia.

I like womens' underwear too - but only women wearing them.

Have a wonderful day & a KOC.

A difference between the sexes I just never thought about.
I do like pretty lingerie and also nice bed linen. I guess you're right, not things men consider.

I think you've got it wrong about us guys, I change my underpants and wash them every other week, even if they don't have skid marks!

Alfie...

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.

I was aware of men's need for "extra" for some activities. Won't quote the way my late husband explained that to me as SFF wouldn't allow it!

Kind of like dishes - we tend to fuss over what they look like, match the decor etc where as most guys just want them to hold food and not spread diseases.

That means you would have to own at least 2 pair, maybe even 3. Do you remember what color they are?

Mine too. When money was tight learned to satisfy my longings for pretty things by picking up lingerie for little at the discount stores. Even now with my closets overflowing with my creations I can not resist finding that just right undergarment for each.

Definitely related to being a nurse. My mom, sis and a couple of cousins are / were nurses and they made the same choices. it does simplify life until your chosen type is no longer available. Seems the manufacturers keep us spending by changing things every couple of years.

In my househusband years, I did the laundry. I was picking up a few things from my 16 yo daughter's room and found a pair of thongs. (Why do they call it "a pair"?) As a joke, I said..."There isn't much to wash here, is there?" She replied... "That's ok Dad, I don't wear them anyway."

Leaving me to walk away hoping that she'd simply changed fashion and not decided to live the commando life! Some questions are best left unasked!

Just because you have silenced a man does not mean you have changed his mind.

Yup - right up there with asking to see the rest of the new tattoo.

Nice to look at and comfortable are all but impossible to find in the same garment. One of the reasons why we have to have so many more than men.

They definitely do "raise our spirits". But somehow men's perception of pretty can be a bit strange. Won't share what a former BF's idea of pretty was but I'm sure all of you can guess.

Funny you would mention underwires. I have a stray one sitting on the dresser until I find what it came out of when Chuck last did a laundry.
