Love It

I finally got a new Ultrabook, one of the new light weight fast ones. I love it and am pretty excited about it, even for a non techie. I spent a few weeks “test driving” all that were available to find the one with the right keyboard. I have been very frustrated with my netbook because the keyboard is so bad. My main computer is getting older and many things are ready to wear out. I type so my and am a touch typist so keyboards were my biggest issue and I finally found one that works well. I can’t believe how much better the display is and how fast it works. Even my techie companion cannot find anything wrong with it
.
The Ultrabooks are costly but well worth it if you need a real computer. I know the new tablets are great for many who do not really type but not an option for me as I need a keyboard, and a good one at that.

Now the work of transferring all of my files over and customizing the machine for me begins.

OK what to you consider a real computer???, I am looking and thinking that maybe it's time.I only use 2 fingers(never had typing in school)have looked at an IPad, can still use the one I am typing on, but would really like a smaller and lighter laptop
Go to an electronics store and check out Ultrabooks. They are the latest in portable, complete computers. So much lighter and faster. I'm struggling with the learning curve I go through each time I change but really like it's speed and keyboard.

Have a great time mastering it. My Science degrees were no help when trying to figure out my tablet till I sought help fron my computer teacher nephew - the one whose femur fracture has me right now in Chandigarh trying to look after him.

I am using it just now, SpiritGirl.

I am sure you will be able to master it fast.

I've always preferred a desktop. I've never felt really comfortable using a laptop and don't travel much, so don't really need one.

Hope your nephew recovers well and quickly. Unless one is a typist the new tablets are great, especially for people on the go.

The change, even to the same type of machine is always a challenge. I figure that since I don't play any word games, do crossword puzzles or any of the things we are advised to do to keep our minds sharp this is my way of doing it.

Thia machine actually replaces a small netbook I have had for a couple of years. The old one was cheap, small and I got it to take with me during my never home stage but it was almost impossible to type on. I have my trusty pink "legally blond" lap top but it is too fragile for much travel. It has been repaired about 7 times, usually following a trip. My son-in-law said he would not take it apart again and Chuck recently informed me that the hard drive was noisy and would likely crash soon. the Ultrabook is my attempt to solve 2 things in one and head off a disaster.

They do take getting use to but once you do you find the desk tops cumbersome. Do to the nature of my work (being out in the field most of the time) my day job trained me well in using my laptop for everything and that was back in the days when they really were difficult and didn't work well.

I know what you mean about defeating the purpose but the accessories make using the lap top at home easier if you are not used to using it. I started with laptops for work as soon as they were available. Somewhere in the middle of their evolution they came up with something called a docking station. It was great. I could use the lap top in the field, then go back to the office, plug it int the docking station and it had the monitor, mouse and keyboard just like a desk top.

I was the first in our agency to use one because I had the most applicable job for one and I was adventurous enough to give it a try.

Texting is very annoying but I do a lot of it as that is the way all my kids communicate. Works well too like when I want to talk to someone about something involved. I text them and say something like need to talk about....... Call me when you can talk."
