Freddy Flintstone Feet

Remember the Flintstones? My family must be related. 2 of my sisters, my 2 nieces and I all have what my youngest sister calls “Freddy Flintstone feet”. Our feet look just like Fred’s cartoonist drew them. We inherited them from my Dad. I never thought much about it until one day hanging out at the pool a family friend commented “You have Pop’s ugly feet!” Thank you Tony, I really needed everyone’s attention called to that fact.

Unfortunately “Freddy Flintstone feet “ is only the beginning. During my early years of a day job I wore high heels – bunions resulted. Later arthritis blossomed in all of my joints, particularly in the smaller joints of feet and hands. Harder and harder to get shoes that are stylish, comfortable and fit.

Now I learn about “surfer knots’. I have had soft, non painful budges on the tops of my feet for many years. I remember my late husband commenting on them but since they caused no problem or pain I just figured that they were part of having ugly feet. The other day I hit my foot n something or other. I don’t remember injuring it but there was a painful bruise and lump on the side of my left foot. Chuck was looking at it and commented “You have surfer knots.” Apparently the soft lumps on the tops of my feet are common with surfers and arise from the constant position of their feet on their boards. Interesting – I never did surf but I have used swim and or dive fins most of my life.

Ok, so I have Freddy Flintstone feet with arthritis, bunions and now surfer bumps – but their needs are accommodatable and my feet are still my good friends since they still get me where I want to go.

awww, they can't be THAT bad! But I do hope they cause you not much pain. I never look at peoples feet in the summer. I always keep eye contact whenever possible. Once I saw a womans feet that had crazy long toenails, they were all discolored yellow and thick and horny growing upward like fungus nails and it really creeped me out. Now I NEVER look at anyone's feet!

When I was in the army there was young guy with the strangest feet in my platoon, they were the ugliest things you ever saw. He couldn't wear army boots on them at all, too many knobs and lumps. After a few weeks they gave him a medical discharge. I'll bet youre are very, very pretty compared to that boys.

I have fat toes. I went into a shoe store years ago and fell in love with a pair of Italian leather sandals in the window. They had a sole and a loop for the big toe. The gal brought them for me to try on. I stuck my big toe in and pop went the loop. She just sat there, I almost died of embarrassment. I said, well guess I just bought a pair of broken sandals. She said, well let me see, the manager is in the back. She was gone awhile and finally came back and said I didn't have to pay for them...they were "apparently defective". I thanked her and said I guess my husband was right telling me I have chubby toes and I guess I won't try to buy any more sandals like these. She laughed then and agreed...

Now years later I not only have fat toes, I have a couple of hammer toes. Sigh........got a pedicure today so they look better.

thankfully not much pain - although one of my sisters keeps telling me they are suppose to hurt. Fortunately no fungus or thick nails either but I have a habit of dropping things on my toes and getting bruised nails so keep them polished.

You're right - they aren't that bad and I can still wear "combat boots" although they are a man's size.

Embarrassing but if there wasn't a problem with them they shouldn't have broken.

Wide feet are a problem. I take a wide width to accommodate my Freddy Feet.

When the rest of you is so nice, Freddy's feet do not matter at all.

I tend to look at the whole package rather than just one part whenever I get anything. I think many of the people here have such wonderful qualities; therefore, Freddy's feet or a little extra weight or a little deviant personnae do not really matter.

'Ok, so I (you) have Freddy Flintstone feet with arthritis, bunions and now surfer bumps – but their needs are accommodatable and my feet are still my good friends since they still get me where I want to go.'

Have a wonderful day, SpiritGirl.

At this stage in life I have no complaints about anything that still works. Fortunately all of me still does.

You are right - I don't think feet are suppose to be pretty - just functional.

sounds like the usual aches and pains of arthritis. Most go away wilt use, just as you described but the old joints need a "jump start".

I'm sure your feet get plenty of use traveling about Europe. I remember, how like Mexico, people actually walk places!

I think, toe nail polish, trimmed nails, agreat pair of sandals and a nice ankle bracelet or tattoo makes ANY ladies foot look cute, no matter the size or shape. I do feel really bad for those people with the fungus toe nails though.Really, the resaon I don't look at peoples feet is not because of disgust, I don't like to make them feel self concious...and everybosy should be able to air out their doggies in nice weather.I never like to make anyone feel self concious or embarres by their looks so eye contact always is my savior. (sometimes people feel self concious about direct constant eye cont too, but that I can't help them with) I always feel those are the ones usually who hise feelings and feel like they are more exposed). I am sure others have noticed this in some people too. Usually always, the evaluation is right on.

Sounds like how I feel about the entire body - particularly for those of us over 60. Stuff migrated and skin doesn't fit the same no matter how good of shape we are in.
