Hard to Handle

I guess the Lord made me hard to handle
So lovin’ me might be a long shot gamble
So before you go and turn me on
Be sure that you can turn me loose
‘cause I still got a lot of leavin’ left to do

The “The Lord made me hard to handle” part of this Dierks Bentley song have been in my mind for a few days. I don’t have a lot of unfinished business these days but my past life has included a lot of leavin’, usually from the others in my life and usually because I was more than hard to handle, I was impossible to handle.

I got to thinking about how this developed. In the beginning it was rebellion against a chronically depressed, overly protective, controlling parent and a structured school system. Then came some poor relationship choices which involved a lot of Leavin’. Then raising teenagers. I had to be hard to handle here to manage them. Toss in a bunch of years of working in the civil service system where being hard to handle was the only way to survive.

I always warn people of this when I get into a relationship but most don’t get it then complain later on and / or use it as a reason for “leaving’”

Yes, I am hard to handle but that is how I made it this far in good shape.

You appear to be excellent the way you are, SpiritGirl.

Just be yourself as always - you will always be happy and the other half (if he is one such) will (and should) be happy also with that.

Have a wonderful day. & a KOC.

I can relate. I wonder how much of that also came from the civil service system. After that system, no one can blow smoke up your you know what!

I have been admitting it for a long time - now if I could only get others to read the warning label.

I am happy. As for the "other half" - I was blessed to have him for 20 years. My life changed since then but I have been blessed with many friends and, although not another soul mate, a current companion who allows me to be me and does not try to handle me.

Well - I did take about 12 hours off a couple of days ago and just chilled with a friend at a secret location.

One of my daughters is very much like me, the other somewhat. My youngest granddaughter, however, is me. At 3 she was already voicing her opinion. When told to do something she disagreed with she would respond with "Izzy says NO". Hopefully she can retain her spirit without all of the lumps and bumps I had to take.

As a career teacher I am sure you can. Kind of what I used to call the white stuff in the oreo - squished between the students and administration.

That was true from the earliest days. Family life took it's tole on my sisters but only made me defiant. Of course that had to be tempered more than a bit but I have managed to stay out of jail and mental institutions.

Thanks. Whether it is defined as spunk or orneriness depends on which side of the situation you view it from.

Definitely. My skills were perfected during the years of having to battle a political driven system not only for my own survival but to get my clients what they needed instead of the crap some officials who never understood them decided would "fix" them.

Ann thought she was too hot to handle too, but I soon had her eating out of my hand.

Yes dear, I hear you calling me, I'll come immediately.

Sorry, I have to go now.
