Respect

Commentary;
by; Freedom "Fred" Perkins

Respect, I have always had a lot of problems with, "Respect," I feel like today there isn't enough. I was at the Auto dealers to have some service performed on my Van a few weeks ago and there was a loud sound out in the street I looked up and saw nothing. I did see a Tractor/trailer sitting there it had been sitting waiting to turn into the dealership. when to sound had happened.

Thirty minutes later a police car and another car had come into the parking area of the car lot, and had accused the driver of hit and run. The driver had come and asked if any of us had seen anything I told him what I had seen and he asked me to talk to the officer. I walked back with him and he talked to the Officer.

This Officer was maybe in his thirties. He stuck his index finger pointing up and moved it in a manner as to motion me to come to him and said, "Hey you! yea you! come here!", I'm not a young boy I felt like I had done some thing wrong. I know that I didn't but he did, number one, I pay his wages, and number two I'm old enough to be his father. If I was I would have slapped his mouth.

When I was a we thought that our older people were an asset, and no adult would have been disrespectful toward them. We have become a society of "ME!!!" and to hell with every one else. This is an observation maybe you have had the same things happen......ffp

Freedom-Fred: I can assure you, from personal experience, that the police-person who pointed at you and addressed you with "Hey You - Yes You! - Come Here!" - was VERY WRONG in what he did/how he did it. Quite likly he wasn't well-trained (IF he had any professional training, at all) -- AND -- had very 'deficient'/very flawed judgmental ability.

Any/every well-trained professional Law Enforcement will hear this - over and over and over and over --- "treat everyone with whom you 'interact' while on duty with respect" (of course, to the extent possible!) --- "even the most disgusting people who might be spitting, kicking and trying to punch you and/or calling you every foul-vulgar name/word you can possibly imagine - even some terms/names you've never heard before!"

Fact is --- quite some time ago, 'back when' -- several of my dear friends were professional 'peace officers' (I prefer that term) -- and because of my employment at the time, I was frequently present while one of them had a rotation of being the training-instructor for the brand-new rookie/trainee cops/sheriffs!

One of the first 'lectures' rookies heard --- had this content/context: "If you applied for a job here and were hired on - and are under ANY ILLUSION that you would be dealing mostly with 'nice' folks --- YOU'RE ALREADY WRONG!" (Freedom-Fred - the next sentence does NOT apply to you, please understand what I 'mean', OK?) "Most of the folks you will need to 'interact' with (the D&D's, drug dealers, armed robbers, etc., in other words -- folks who committed bad-violent acts toward others, etc) --- WILL BEHAVE AS 'ROTTENLY' as it's possible for human-folks to behave."

Then, this was added-on: "DO NOT behave like the rotten folks who have potty-mouth and potty-brain; do NOT 'reply in kind' to their four language and behavior." etc., etc., etc.

I realize I'm repeating myself, but here goes: They were repeatedly instructed ... "treat even THE WORST OF THEM with 'respectful' words/language' BECAUSE -- it's quite likely that if the matter goes as far as 'to Court' - how YOU (the police-person) behave toward them will be as much about getting the PD's and Court Officers work done 'properly', as anything else."

Freedom-Fred: I agree with your feelings about 'respect' - completely! Thanks for writing-posting this blog.

Im glad I was brought up with manners and respect for my elders.
I think put somebody in a position of power, ie, a uniform, and
the power takes over. They think they can get away with anything and usually do.
