Good and Faithful Servant,....right!

commentary by;
Freedom F. Perkins Sr.

My good and faithful and trusted servant, I always thought that this was what America was all about, well.....I'm wrong it isn't about this at all. Today it is the Dollar and how can we get more for less. These smart that we send to Harvard and schools like it are our downfall. They have figured out that the older worker is to costly and will do anything that it takes to get rid of them. Please tell me where does the worker go to find a job that is over 55 years old and find a job that was paying the amount of money that he was most likely earning just before reaching this ripe age of 55 years old. He/she can't find anything that even comes close. Gee, Wal-mart needs door greeters. Many Employers today will only hire part-timers so that they don't have to have a benefit package. There is also a catch 22 to that, when you go to work for them even though it is part time they have you sign an agreement that you won't work for a competitor, even though that may be the only job that you know how to do and might be very skilled. An example; In a small town in middle America there is two companies that produce cabinets. A cabinet maker worked for a third company that has just gone out of business there in the same town. So he goes to company number one and applies for a job and is hired that very day but for 20 hours only at $18.00 an hour and is given a bunch of paper work and is told he can start tomorrow and to bring the paper work back filled out. That evening while he is filling out the paper work he reads that he can't go to company number two and work for them in any manner at all to include sub-contracting some extra work to do at home. Now let's take a fast view of this man he worked for the third company for 33years, was a master cabinet maker, missed work to bury his folks, was an hour and a half late for work three years ago because of the super bad snow storm, was out of work for a week and a half because he had had a heart attack but then came back to work two weeks before the doctors wanted him to, he was earning $23.00 dollars an hour. He was entitled to four week vacation a year, he had full medical for his wife and himself. My good and faithful trusted servant , just got dumped on.
Everyday I hear about some one that is over 55 years old being harassed and pushed to the point of making them leave their jobs and in some cases just being let go for no reason. Companies make standards that are set for a 35 year old and when the older worker can no longer make that standard then they force them to leave or just get rid of them like they are just so much trash. My Good and Faithful Trusted Servant. There is an exception....you got it...."The good ol boy/girl network"........You say that you don't know what that is. ....You know me to well I'll only be to glad to tell you. In the military we called it, "KISSING BUTT" I didn't kiss butt in the military and I'm not going to start now. My good and faithful trusted servant.........MY BUTT!

After I wrote the piece titled "My Good and Faithful Trusted Servant" I got to thinking that you might not have thought about it but Your 401 K or Federal Thrift Savings Plan has some rules that back up the article. With the federal government a person who is 55 years old and has five years service can retire and draw a small pension of maybe $200 a month. If he has a Thrift Savings plan he can buy a annuity with it how ever if he does this before he turns 59 1/2 years old they will take part of it back because of early retirement. If you just leave the job that you have they will take some up to all of what they put into it. They would like to get rid of you as soon as possible, I think in my heart of hearts that they count on you being gone before you turn 59 1/2 years old so that they can take away from your savings. I would like to point out that I work for the Post Office but your civilian company has its 401 K and it works just the same way.

Hi Freedom, I was just trying to get your blog into my thick head and have been thinking of the job situation in Ireland. Thousands are out of jobs since Christmas, the Asylum seekers are all gone because no hand-outs, the young people are all on the dole, with good qualifications which they worked hard to achieve. The only people who can manage to get work in Ireland at the moment are the women. Cleaning jobs, menial jobs, serving at tables, a lot of women in business jobs, but how long will this last. The busses are being cut down drastically, and some train stations are no longer being manned. We have no rights.

Robyn5,

This might well be a much larger problem than Ireland thinks it has. There is an old saying the idleness breads mischief. Another is that idleness is the devel's work shop. I am sure that many would disagree with me, but I blame greed for the present situation all over the world today. The real question is whose greed, and I would tell them it is the greed of the oil industry. I would understand you not wanting to believe that but if I spend my extra money on oil (gas for my auto) then I am unable to buy maybe a product from Irland or any where else,......ffp
