Tax Refunds"

"Average tax refunds were down last week 8.4 percent for the first week of the tax season over the same time last year, according to the Internal Revenue Service. Dipping refunds are inflaming a growing army of taxpayers stunned by the consequences of the Trump administration’s tax law — and the effects of the partial government shutdown.

The average refund check paid out so far has been $1,865, down from $2,035 at the same point in 2018, according to IRS data. Low-income taxpayers often file early to pocket the money as soon as possible. Many taxpayers count on the refunds to make important payments, or spend the money on things like home repairs, a vacation or a car.

The IRS had estimated it would issue about 2.3 percent fewer refunds this year as a result of the changes in the federal tax law, according to Bloomberg. MSNBC reports that 30 million Americans will owe the IRS money this year — 3 million more than before Trump’s tax law."

*********

Like I said..the writing was on the wall for the new tax law..

It's important to understand that refunds.. represent the middle and lower classes only.
The higher income people ... "Pay taxes".. come filing time.. The don't get refunds
Higher income paying less taxes makes up for it. So that tax cut become real.. for them.

I should mention...for some who receive smaller refunds...have received larger paychecks to make for it.. but overall the middle class and lower class about break even.. But when that refund check its not what is expected.. for them, they don't care why.

I think the mistake for years has been to focus on the refund, and not on the tax liability due. Our income was up from 2017, but our tax liability was less. Our refund, overpaid taxes through out the year, was just slightly less than last year, but that was because they held out less taxes throughout the year and we had more money each month.
Actually for the government to issue smaller refund checks, if they are truly refunds and not unearned income credits, is a good thing. It means folks got more of their own money left in their pockets over the year and not given to the government to use interest free.

If you don't expect anything from anybody......You won't be disappointed.

I just love gruber economists. Fewer than 10% have filed so far. The REAL estimate is that 6% of all people will pay higher taxes. If your paycheck is increased enough, you will pay more taxes, even at a lower rate (or you may have been bumped into a higher bracket). When it comes to "I told you so", the simple truth is that one can bet the farm on Leftie spin of ANYTHING good Donald has done.

Stay away from the bottle this early, cockroach. You might be able to differentiate between Marxist propaganda and fact.

yes that's logical...
It's just not reality.. that's not the way people think..
Some will see advantages...other won't..
But when it comes to the amount of your refund.. the reality is... it doesn't matter.
When it come to refunds.. People don't think logically.
Some will KNOW they got screwed.. Other won't have gotten screwed.. but simply think they have...
Either way.. you going to have a lot of upset people.

This is simply going to be the most unbelievable year working at the IRS.. WE have to deal with the emotional aspect from taxpayer all the time.. but this year. is going to be the worst.
The biggest problem, in the smooth running, of the IRS is people who don't understand their taxes..Well.. this year, most aren't going to understand. The increased workload is going to be phenomenal..And the shutdown didn't help, New seasonal hires are started in January for training.....because of the shutdown it created the inability for the IRS to get new hires going..and the depletion of new hires, because they couldn't get started when they plan to... the IRS is a seasonal business, This season will be a yearly one. I'm a seasonal employee, I like it that way, but this year..I don't expect it to be seasonal.
My only hope is...The budget for the IRS this year will not be enough.. We may have to shutdown because we run of money.. The irony of the collection group.. running out of money to collect..seems ironic..

How many times have we been advised by financial gurus not to over-withhold? Why should we let the feds have our money interest-free for a year? I'm sick of your constant belly-aching about Trump.

I can't help if you can't think.. I'm not saying it's good or bad.. I leave it up to you to decide. I'm just telling you it is ...what it is..
Now maybe you're incapable of discerning between my opinion and the facts, even though I always say it.. when I know it's my "opinion"..You simply ignore it..
I have no intention of propagandizing you with the facts..

Well there is no solution.. except the truth.. without it.. there can be no solution..
I honestly don't care about the solution..I just care about the TRUTH and whatever the solution is.. will then become capable of following it.. I propose no action...
For in that proposition... it's only my opinion.. which I refuse to give.. without knowing the truth... I only partially know the truth.
That partial truth I know.. You Will deny.. so be it..... there will be NO solution, proposed or otherwise...

For what its worth....it takes a genuinely stupid person, to include drunks, to whine about the millions of Americans who are complaining about the miserable failure, the astonishing racist, the incredibly arrogant sexual predator that is Trump, to include subversive corrupt behavior. Do you know what I mean Cricket.....about Schmucks?

Cricket I think it was something like a year after Trump signed Tax Reform for the wealthiest Americans he promised to "do something" for the middle class "maybe next year"?.

And this promise was just before the Nov. midterm elections. The skank promised 10% tax relief for the middle class. Can you shed some light on this?

Don't be so damned disingenuous. The tax relief act was Trump's greatest legislative triumph. Why talk BS?

As I said, the focus has been on the REFUND...... which is just what a person has OVERPAID during the year........................ but too many focus on the freebies that are attached to their "refund", which is often thousands of dollars more than they paid in the first place...... so they get back all they paid during the year PLUS a lot more. Now they want to cry because they don't get something for nothing?

If you don't expect anything from anybody......You won't be disappointed.

Just one more of 8000 lies..

Mexico will pay for the wall....Don't be silly to believe that Trump supporters actually believed that.. They did not.. It was lie.. they knew it...

But they accept all his lies.. for one reason.. It pisses Liberals off....

This is great. Refunds being down shows the tax cut worked. Instead of letting the Government hold your money for a year, it' s IN YOUR POCKET. You can get interest on that money all year, instead of loaning it to the Government.
Wages went up almost 4 % last year, the most in decades. And, since your withholding is less, your take home is more. How stupid do you think we are that we cannot do math?

Read the bill for yourself, note the change in tax brackets, increase in the child credits, and the doubling of the standard deduction.

How stupid are you to think that people actually do the math..?

But the truth is even some that do.. they find out the loss of credits and deduction outweighs the advantages.. In fact a lot..

You got more BS, in you, than a bullring holding shoot.. Just in speaking of shooting the shit..

The bill is the bill is the bill. And the 10% promise a few days before the Midterms is not in the bill. It's another lie … that's the point.
