Isreal and the Middle East

The problem is that the Muslim world does not believe in the separation of church and state. in so doing any influence that is attempted on government is in direct confict with the people's faith. Obviously, from the view of the western world, the middle eastern society and goverments are not what we would consider proper yet we cannot influence or control it.

What we don't realize is that any influence we try to impose on the society and government become in direct conflict with the Muslim faith. It is our attemt at influence that creates the adversary positions.

We have but two interests in the middle east. First we have Isreal and second we have oil. Without these interests our determination to influence the middle east would be greatly diminished.

We need to understand that our influence in the middle east is both direct and indirect. The indirect influence is in our way of life, that through the media and the current information revolution in itself becomes an attack on the Muslim society and governments. We need to believe that in the log run this attack will prevail. It is one of the true fears of the governments of the middle east that this will in fact lose them conrol of their societies.

Our direct influence is both useless and is used to our disadvantage. The mistake made here is that we point fingers a the leadership and extremist of the Muslim world, when in fact it is the society that runs that part of the world not the leadership. Without the separtion of church and state, all direct influences by the west will be considered an attack on the Muslim way of life.

The majority of the people in the Muslim world do not understand our motivations and purpose for our direct actions. they have been brainwashed to the idea that it is attack on their faith. Although they do not understand our action, they do, however, understand our reactions.

In conclusion we need to stay out of the Muslim world and let them do what they do best, fight amonst themselves. We need to remove the idea that we are the enemy, and allow them to realize the enemy is within. We need to react against any terrorism or any attack on Isreal in a manner which not only deals with the perpetrators but also with the society and goverments which approve their actions. Our reaction to any attacks on us will not be considered trying to influence their faith but as defending ourselves.

Hi Jiminy

I think u raise valid points. But I would add that America has become a convenient scapegoat for many problems in the Middle East. In an effort to remain in power, Muslim clerics and politicians both seek to inspire unity and backing from their populations, by aligning them behind common enemies. Isreal and Western Cultures provide a suitable "boogey man." I think even if Isreal itself moved their entire nation and populace to an even more desolate region of the globe, and if the USA and our allies completely left the Middle East, the leadership among Muslim nations there would STILL portray us as the "Great Satan."

It's the only way they can stay in power.

Hi Jiminy,

I see your point but I am confused by your reference to the middle east and the Muslim world.

90% of the people of Turkey, 50% of the people of Malaysia and 80% of the people in Indonesia are Muslims. Since Indonesia has a population of 240 million, there are 200 million Muslims in Indonesia which makes it the country with the most Muslims. It is followed by Pakistan with 178 million and India with 177 million. So which is the Muslim world?

The other point is in my country, for example, there will be a couple of hundreds demonstrating in front of the US embassy against the video which is said to be provocative while the rest of our 28 million people will be carrying on with their daily lives unperturbed. Unfortunately, it is those few hundred demonstrators who will be in front of the cameras.

Hi Jiminy: Very interesting blog. Judging by the way some people in the U.S. react to their own President even having a Muslim sounding name, and also many of the anti-Muslim blogs here, I wonder what would happen if the tables were turned and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were taking place in the U.S.??? Imagine bombs and army bases and Iraqi and Afghani soldiers all over American streets telling us what to do? My goodness, even a whisper of a new Mosque being built in the U.S. and people have a fit. Imagine how we would feel taking instructions from Muslim soldiers. Jews, Muslims, Christians - these three religions don't mix, never have and never will because NONE of them can accept that each other worships different prophets. All of history has been full of religious wars and hate in my opinion. It all makes me sick.

To me the answer is simple:

(1) Offer Israel a tract of land in the U.S. to relocate their entire country to. If they move to the U.S. they will be as safe as we are. If they choose to stay where they are, then we're sorry but they will have to protect themself. Sorry but we're out of money and can't afford to lose one more soldier.

(2) The most important solution is SOLAR POWER. The sun is the answer to all our energy problems and it's been staring us right in the face while we ruin the planet digging for oil and rely on the Middle East to sell it to us.

Itw... You explanation is why i used the two terms, middle east to show the region and the Muslim world to show the faith. For the most part the biggest diference is the in those governments of the Muslim world that control the people through religion. This blog is not a condemnation of Mulims but of the Middle east failure to separate church and state.

Bijou,

Other than Palestinians, who were displaced by Isreal. The hatred you speak is far more a creation than a reality. It is indicative of blind faith. The creation of hatred by those in power in the Middle East, like Gavin says, is their means of staying in power.

Gavin... very good, I agree. Their power to control their people would be greatly diminished if we stayed out of it. Our indirect influence would still be there and be of concern Yet, as the hatred glue it would not bond as securely.

Hi jiminy,

I agree that your blog does not condemn Muslims.
What I wish to show is that Muslim World is best defined as Muslim-majority countries and that not all these countries control the people through religion. For example, Indonesia, Pakistan and Turkey, where 90% of the people are Muslims, are not Islamic but secular countries.

Hi Fossil: I thought of that after, but since Israel is always demanding that the U.S. protect them, I thought the U.S. might get off the hook that way.

Fossil,,
One the great misnomers is that the Muslim extremists are expansionists. This is simply not true. they are not trying to persuade or influence us. This is about control of the muslim world not the western world. The muslim extremists may be a threat to Israel but they are not a political threat to us. Stopping them from having nukes doesn't change anything, and simply adds fuel to fire that we are trying to control their religion. I believe that those in charge already have or could easily get a nuclear weapon. They haven't because they know the consequences. this government has to add to those consequence by holding not only the leaders responsible but the society of that country. If muslims are aware that their leaders could use a nuclear weapons then they need to get a new leader or move out of Dodge.

Hi again Jiminy!

I'm sad to see that this blog will soon be cycling off the front page, because I would love to exchange our differing views on Islamic culture and theology.

You share good points to consider, and you keep your comments civil. I've enjoyed this blog.

Fossil.....
You need to get a nite-lite-life.....there aren't boogie men behind every closet door.
I believe every thing I say, sometimes though, what I say is not interpreted in the way I personally mean it! It's probably one of my greatest fault... is that I understand the ways I can be misinterpreted. Yet somehow, someway I get a kick out of saying it the way I say it.
It's not my intent to try and push your buttons. Yet, I enjoy just putting the button out there so you can push it. A long time ago I stopped getting angry about being misinterpreted and discovered it says far more about the person doing the misintepreting than it does about what I have to say.

If they learn French, Quebec will gladly take them all in. And with the number of Arabs who have immigrated to Quebec over the past couple of decades, that should heat up the socio-political climate there even more.
