I am not certain what to celebrate this weekend.

I freely admit I am not a Christian, and the celebration of someone being killed, rather gruesomely on a cross of timbers seems a bit morbid.
But it is okay, they say, because somehow magically, mystically, he gets himself all fixed up and good as new.
Okay so that is one thing that is to be celebrated this weekend. Then in conjunction with the wishes of the chocolate manufacturers, we are celebrating the beginning of life by giving each other colored hard boiled or chocolate eggs. And the symbol of this celebration, is not the chicken as you might think, but the rabbit. The"Easter Bunny". Peter Cottontail.
One of the truly most prolific providers of new life on the planet today.
There is even the giving and receiving of live bunnies and baby chicks as a part of this celebration.
Interestingly enough, this celebration is twice or three times as old as the Christian one.
Yet, the Christians lay claim to it.
And those of the Jewish Persuasion seem to need to fit Passover in here as well, give or take a week or three.
There are so many to choose from, and yet because of the hype, and the pageantry of it all, I choose to stay away, because it does not affect my relationship with God.
I have nothing, any longer, to prove. So no fancy duds, and no sitting uncomfortably for an hour while someone expounds on the meaning of the holiday.
Okay I admit it. I did buy some Cadbury Orange Creme filled eggs and stuck them in the freezer so I could have my own Rite of Spring. But they are small so the Rite will be short.

God loves me. I love God. I don't need all the rest of it. I wouldn't be alive otherwise.

i do not clebrate someone being killed. as a christian, i celebrate the price jesus paid so that i may be forgiven of sin and allowed into heaven. i think most christians find this week a painful week...not a joyous holiday. but then there is the bunny thing and the egg thing and my 4 year old grandson is ecstatic about the easter bunny. so i am okay with bunnies and baskets of candy. whatever you choose to celebrate, enjoy the week end.
