Spell Check?

Do incorrectly spelled words deter you from making initial contact?
Yes
No
Doesn't matter

The positive is there. Sometimes it's just hard to find.

It depends on the degree of the mispelings (lol). Sometimes they are just typos.

Not as long as the contend of the message is clear and appropriate.

Sometimes when I get in a hurry , I will forget to do a spell check, so far I havn't made myself look to bad ... I think sometimes we all get in a hurry and don't check when we should ... Hi Red, been a while since we have talked, hope life is treating you well... Take care ... DC

Hi DC,

Isn't it the truth? Hurry, hurry...lol.

I'm doing good -- busy doing nothing at times! Hope life is treating you well.

Google [spell check poem] for the funnier side.

Sum of dem spells's and hameraculls are at the righters purogatory!

I find that thikng whikle I'm typif and looking at the words on the screen causes a finger or to to type ahead /andor miss the intended key.

But working with power tools I don't have a similar problem. Hmmmm
maybe I need a power keyboard? LOL

The answer is YES. I also hate it when, people don,t put a space after, their commas and use a comma instead of an apostophe.

P.S. I hate those pesky dangling participles too

Sometimes, I just hit a wrong key...and don't correct it. Other times, for some reason my keyboard sort of freezes...and a letter's left out. Other times I jest sepuell it wroang 'cause one or two anallyy retentive individals are continualllllly correcting others. I try to deliberately leave at least one misspelled word in every post.

However, it would seem obvious to me if one is literate, erudite, intelligent, and expressive.....and easy to overlook a foible.

If I had to put on hose, high heels, and a silk business suit to sign on SFF, I wouldn't be here. I come here to RELAX! If it becomes an exercise in English....I'm gone.....which I am sure would make a certain few quite happy.

And, as usual, I think of others. Not everyone is blessed in the art of writing, and I would not want anyone to feel they couldn't post because their spelling, punctuation, or expression was not perfect. Of course, those individuals are usually the ones gifted analytically.....and can understand and use algebra, calculus, trig, all higher math....and send ships to the moon, build bridges, and ascertain the mysteries of the universe. Who am I to criticize them.......or for that matter, anyone. We're all God's children...and if he hadn't put us here...we sure would not be...here......spelling, punctuation, and everything else aside.

good gawd....nine "yes" responses at this point....wonder how these nine responders would deal with someone who mispronounced a word in their presence....stone them to death? lol.....I was a former spelling champion in middle school and high school and scored in the 96th percentile on the English portion of the ACT, but I know that no one spells every word correctly, as someone pointed out to some of the responses to this blog ....UNBELIEVABLY SHALLOW is how I would describe these people.....if this is one of your measures of finding a life partner, heaven help ya.....

I was reluctant to vote or add a response, however I feel the need to explain my position/stand on my conviction. There are people who don't read or write our language, I'll forgive them, but those who do and cannot get the words right, there is no excuse. Look it up in your Funk and Wagnall.

I have a 3.70 grade average, son, attending his 1st year of college, it cost me $14,000 per semester for that, I have a 15 year old with an overall score of 91 %, it cost me $600.00 per month. They had better not misspell any words in their studies, writings, or homework. I realize that not all people are able to gain an education, but that is what they have spell check on these silly computers for.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
