Personally I don't know why anyone even responded to "that" blog.

From what I am reading, the Latinos now have the majority of the votes. Add that to the fact there is a Black man in the White House and for sure "the sky is falling".

Maybe it's Karma? LOL

I am 100% sure my grandparents spoke a foreign language when they immigrated to this country...they didn't fight to protect the USA, but their children, grandchildren, nephews, etc. did.

RedRidingHood, great blog! I have no idea why anyone would even respond to the blog you mentioned nor do I understand why anyone would hold a grudge because someone spoke another language in addition to 'English'!! That is how being prejudiced got too many in hot water over the years. I come from a family where growing up meant listening to several languages of which I speak 3 plus one not as fluent, even though I grew up in the Province of Quebec where many only spoke French. I attended both French and English schools. I've worked over the years with my first language (French) but pride myself in speaking English fluently. When I lived in Europe I noted that most people in those countries spoke several languages and it was no big deal; I thought that was amazing!! I love the various cultures as I feel we learn from all of them and one another. I would dearly love to learn Spanish... my next project!!!

Hi Red: I don't know which blog you are referring to but there sure seems to be a lot of hate and ignorance around. A lot of people really seem to hate Mexicans, Muslims, atheists, African Americans, Democrats, etc. Whatever happened to all of us being created equal?

I'm afraid I am missing the ethnic pride gene.

One's ethnicity, religion, and mother tongue are largely an accident of birth that we, as individuals, can take no credit for.

I'm not ashamed of being an ethnic Pole, but not particularly proud of it either.

Anyone who honestly examines the history of their particular tribe will usually find there is much to admire, and equally as much to regret.

Here are examples of what I mean from the recent history of my own mob.

Poland suffered the harshest occupation under the Nazis of any nation in Europe. Despite this, there was a resistance movement and a parallel government from the first day of occupation. This contrasts sharply with what happened in France or the British Channel Islands.

On the other hand, Polish discrimination against Jews and Ukrainians is something that no thinking Pole can deny, nor be proud of. One of instruments for spreading anti-Semitism in Poland was the Roman Catholic Church, a body highly praised in the West during the Communist era.

The mindset of the WASP is sometimes very difficult to deal with.
For they believe. since God granted them a stinger, they certainly should be able to use it.

So does anybody disagree?
1. English should be the national language?
2. People in this country have every right to speak any language they choose?

So then....what's the problem?

I find it curious that nobody has commented on what I said. Think I will have to put it into a blog of its own. It's a topic that holds a great deal of interest for me
