how do i housebreak a boy?

i leave for anchorage again on the 27th of this month, for a 3 week visit. i am excited to see alaska without the cloak of darkness or the frigid weather. i cannot wait.

i asked my , meg, if she needed anything special. she laughed. 'when you get here,' she said, 'you can help me potty train dominic. how do i housebreak a boy?' her husband is in iraq again, she works fulltime and dominic attends the daycare on base. they are trying to encourage the potty training and they say dominic is interested...in flushing the toilet. he is a champion flusher.

i remember my , neal, all those years ago. we lived in rural vermont and i was trying to potty train him. he had no interest. until one afternoon, we pulled over on a back road because his dad needed to 'relieve himself.' neal stood beside his dad and aimed at a tree. he loved being potty trained from that moment on, as long as he was allowed to race outside and water our bushes. it took forever to convince him the bathroom was as interesting as the trees. the coming winter helped. standing in the snow is just not as exciting....

so dominic and i will go through an intensive 3 week bootcamp on bathroom etiquette. i have already bought him some 'thomas the train' underwear. megan has the latest, state of the art potty chair waiting. 'but meg,' i said yesterday, 'if that fails....do you have a tree?"

Debra,
This is so cute!!
Good luck potty training your grandson, just thinking about it makes me laugh! Thomas the train underwear might help though. But as you said...I hope there's a tree handy just in case. Well look at it like this, at least he is a champion flusher, he has half of it down pretty good.
God Bless You,

Sounds like you will have a great trip and fun with the family! My grandson had a habit of just "going" outside. His parents told him to not do it outside. One day after that they looked out and there he was facing away from the house figuring they couldn't see him but...he was facing the very busy highway! lol By the way, we started the computer addiction chapter, I put a message to you on my blog.
