Photo Monday - My niche.

This is a Chinese temple at Kuala Terong, a riverine village about 11km from Taiping. It is famous for its charcoal which is produced from mangrove wood. This village is surrounded by mangrove forests.
The small temple stands on a small island in the river and is only accessible by the steel bridge on the right. The height of the bridge must be to allow boats to pass under it.

Hi MsEd,

Thank you for the comment. The trees in the background are mangrove trees. The pink pagoda shaped structure on the extreme left with a hole in it is for burning joss paper.

Hi MySeek,

Calm and peace: that was what struck me. We were on the way back and it had started to rain but when I spotted the temple, I knew I just had to take a photo.

Hi Poet,

It was serene indeed. To the right, but not in the picture, was a jetty behind of which was a charcoal kiln. Thank you for the comment and have a nice week.

Hi pp,

It was sort of a hide away, situated at the end of a remote side road. Thank you for the comment.

That is a really beautiful and peaceful place to spend time, Lee. I'd like to visit Taiping again one day before I shuffle off this mortal coil. I have so many great memories of my time there and in Perak.

Hi et,

Yes, it is. A tiny corner no one notices. This was my first visit after passing by numerous times.

Hi Hawk,

You better hurry so I can show you around. As it is, I am only spending half my time here and I am thinking of moving south to be nearer to my children.

Hi Roxy,

Joss paper are paper gold and silver ( paper with a gold or silver square painted on it) and paper printed to look like money that we burn as offerings to our dear departed or to a deity so that they can have an easy afterlife. Every year I burn hundreds of millions in gold, silver and currencies to my late parents.

Hi MsEd,

That is pretty accurate. We also burnt paper currencies too. However, it is not to show respect and honour but to provide them with a good life. Going with the times, we can now burn cheques, bank books, fixed deposits and even stock certificates. Other than that we can burn mansions, limousines or air planes too.
Well, the only time I am filthy rich is when I leave thus world, I guess.
