Photo Monday - My niche.  This is a Chinese temple at Kuala Terong, a riverine village about 11km from Taiping. It is famous for its charcoal which is produced from mangrove wood. This village is surrounded by mangrove forests. The small temple stands on a small island in the river and is only accessible by the steel bridge on the right. Hi Roxy, Joss paper are paper gold and silver ( paper with a gold or silver square painted on it) and paper printed to look like money that we burn as offerings to our dear departed or to a deity so that they can have an easy afterlife. Hi MsEd, That is pretty accurate. We also burnt paper currencies too.However, it is not to show respect and honour but to provide them with a good life. Going with the times, we can now burn cheques, bank books, fixed deposits and even stock certificates. Other than that we can burn mansions, limousines or air planes too.Well, the only time I am filthy rich is when I leave thus world, I guess.
