Hi beachgirl, There are all kinds of flowers - roses, sunflowers, hydrangeas but the most important of which is lavender. The lavender fields are world famous and people from all over the world (yours truly included) travel to Hokkaido in the summer to appreciated them. These farms make a lot of money from the sales of fruits (the musk melons are very sweet and very expensive), lavender t-shirts, drinks, (Have you tasted lavender drink?) lavender ice cream, restaurant food, souvenirs, flowers, etc and entrance is free. When it comes to tourism, the Japanese are very creative. They have events to attract tourists for all the 4 seasons and, their service is excellent.
