Foto Friday - Wild Orchid 2 1. This wild orchid is bigger and more colourful than the previous one. 2. Unlike the previous one, this orchid grows in the soil and do not need a host. 3. Some people have planted these orchids in their gardens. 4. They are white with a purple lip. 5. The orchid used to be found in abundance in the wild – on hill slopes, ex-mining land, by the sides of lakes, etc. 6. They are hardy and can survive on poor/sandy soil. It seems that they only need sunlight to flourish. 7. Although they are considered wild, I find them quite beautiful. Moreover, they bloom throughout the year unlike other orchids whereby you may have to wait for months or years for them to bloom. 8. However, the survival of these orchids is now being threatened. They are slowly being replaced by these man-made structures. Lee Live today as if it is your last For tomorrow will soon be in the past |

Hi Lee. Like you, I too love orchids. The surprising thing is how hardy they really are. But you are also right about them being threatened by over-development. I wish I had the room for a small greenhouse -- I'd raise a few of them. I have only one plant now, and I'm not sure if it will rebloom. Thanks so much for the posting. Hi Poet, These pictures were taken at around 6 pm today while I was on my evening walk among the hills around my place in Taiping. You are sharp to spot the red soil. These orchids will soon be gone as the land has been leveled for housing. Lee Live today as if it is your last For tomorrow will soon be in the past

Lovely flowers. The closeups are great Lee. One of my buddies used to grow orchids in a greenhouse in the UK. There were some lovely ones among them. Alfie...
