That pretty well sums up what the Republicans did to the US Postal Service. The only change to the cartoon to coincide with actual events is to require funding for seventy five years.

And then there is the matter of blaming the Postal Service for their lack of profitability after this onerous burden.

And in spite of all of this we still have far greater mail delivery than many countries. When I lived in Mexico it could take up to 4 weeks for mail to get where it does in 4 days here.

Hi Friendly: We used to have milk and bread delivered to our homes in Canada years ago, but when that stopped we simply walked or drove to a store and bought some. So I don't think people need to have their mail delivered to their door anymore either. The postal service here has set up mail drop boxes with locked slots for each house on some streets, then the homeowners simply walk or drive a block or two and pick up their mail. In the small town where I grew up everyone had a locked box at the post office and we walked there and picked up our mail.

I think our society has become too lazy and demanding if they complain because they have to pick up their own mail.

The postal system is largely irrelevant to me these days.

Welcome to my blog Ruff&ready.

Some of us, Republicans or Democrats - across the plethora of political parties the world over - are destructive. My aim of reproducing this little comic was not postal service as to point out the 'heads I win, tales you loose' attitude of the authorities the world over.

I should think that the US postal system is still better than many in the world despite the Govt.

Have a great day.

You are absolutely right, SpiritGirl.

As I mentioned in response above, the aim was to point out the often destructive attitude of those in authority. US postal system is better than many the world over.

Have a wonderful day.

Every problem has its own solution with economics kept in mind. A govt's duty is to cater for all its people and, therefore, evolve systems of delivery of services (food, medical et al) according to the needs of the beneficiaries irrespective of their location, age, condition, status etc. While the conventional postal services may not be the most efficient mode in this day and time, in many others, there is no substitute for them.

Some govts and their constituents have unfortunately tried to universally apply systems that fail to meet all needs of all the people.

A single efficient system can be efficient for only a single place or a group; in reproducing this comic, I meant to point out the destructive attitude of many of us in authority.

Many thanks for your observations. Have a wonderful Friday, GrandBluff.

That is how it is Bijou - adjustment too is necessary. While the govts have the responsibility of facilitating good quality of life, economics and other advantages often require that we, the people, too adjust our life styles in pursuit of good service(s).

Indeed, in some respects, we have become lazy but the authorities have not deviated from their well trodden path - they specialise in destroying perfectly good systems.

Have a wonderful Friday, My Friend.

That is adjustment, MrsJoe and you have adapted yourself well without any difficulty or inconvenience.

There still remain places or situations where Saturday or Sunday (emergency) despatches and deliveries may be needed. As long as the system evolved caters to those situations, it is fine. Left to authorities alone, any system would be a wreck.

Have a wonderful Friday .

Irrelevant for you, indeed, but as Grandbluff pointed out, the absence of postal service does not meet the requirement of all.

Thanks for your observation, Rentier. Have a great Friday heading towards the weekend.
