Blogs, Petpeeves and turnoffs.....

At the risk of totally being misunderstood - I will put this disclaimer - these are just my thoughts and no reflection on anyone or anything!

With that being said......several weeks ago I happened upon a profile of a friend of mine. Someone that I used to share going to movies with and dinners and conversation. We have since gone our separate ways but I did send him an email suggesting that he put a more current photo on his profile to which he replied why - it looks like me! Oh my gosh, sorry but a photo from about 8 years ago does not look like the person today. Fine to have a photo from the past but please also put a current one in the profile too. At least it shows the progression of aging. Frankly, the photo doesn't do the man justice. He has aged very nicely. Is it vanity that keeps us to the past? I'm not sure. I'm happy with the way I look now. FineWine you know! LOL

The other comment I have (and not about my friend) but I've noticed a lot of profiles show men in speedos or with rumps to the camera...... I just must ask why? I'm not a prude but why? We are seniors - most of us do have some mileage. There's nothing wrong with that. Our bodies are still functional and our minds are sharp. We have knowledge that most younger people won't have until they get to be our age - so why? I think it's great that a man of 60 or 70 has a fantastic body - but somewhere something sags just a bit and somewhere places that were firm are quite as firm. But, it's ok. Be the best that we each can be.

But, I still have to ask why?

Now please.....these are just thoughts - I'm not passing any kind of judgement so don't jump all over me. Sure I could turn off comments but I won't - I'll just hit delete! LOL

FineWinev43.....I totally agree. My friends call it false advertising.
My picture is only a few months old but I had my friends look at my profile over the wekend to see what they thought and they say..that is not "the real you"...it looks way to reserved and you will never find someone that appreciates the "real" you. So they are going to take new pictures for me and we will see what happens. I too am happy with the way I am now and don't want to misrepresent me. I agree that we need to be ourselves more than anything. Besides unless you never plan to meet the people they will notice Honesty still the best policy so you both get what you expect. RED

Some believe in destiny, some believe in fate. I believe that happiness is something we create

Kitcat - thank you. I thought maybe I was a minority in my view on the speedos.

PolyLady - I hear ya loud and clear. I am monogamous but in all reality and honesty - I don't think one person can truly fill all of our needs. Now with having said that - what I mean is perhaps the person that shares my bed doesn't like some of the other things I like to do or I don't share all of his interests. I know our society frowns on this but I see no reason not to spend time with someone else that does share the interest - whether same \bsexo?\b or opposite \bsexo?\b. But that's just me. I know that's not what you are referring to but just my humble opinion. And, it's very refreshing to have someone express your views like you did. I'm actually finding this site better for developing friendships then finding a love interest. And, that's ok too.

Thanks for sharing.

You are VERY RIGHT!! We all look just the "same" to ourselves, LOL! It's not like "fine wine"....yepper...

A picture that is taken within the past year and if not even sooner. There can't be anything worse than meeting someone and seeing them have the look of shock on their face?

Maybe his intention is only to have penpals? I think sometimes, this is WHY someone would do something like that.

Just, my opinion -

Actually he is looking for a woman to be in his life and that is why I think it's so sad. I guess our views of ourselves is some time tainted. I sort of like the silver in my hair now. My photo was taken in July 2006 and yes I am 63 1/2.

Thank heaven I have not received a nudie of a man in my mails or one in lace panties. I might have heart failure and laugh myself to the hospital.

To each his own.

Well, Undup, we all have different purposes for posting the way we do and it's ok. I do not get either why men or women prefer to show a rump in the lens but....what does it do for me? Turns me off completely. I'm not interested in a man that thinks it's important to show his body. Is the person that insecure in what they have to offer that is what they feel is their best attribute? I don't know. I have photos of my tattoos - and they are not risque by any means but unless someone would ask to see them, I wouldn't think of sending them to anyone.

I think how we feel about ourselves has a lot to do with it too and what we are looking for in a singles site.

Thanks so much for you input.

Zantoo, very good!

My photo was from a lunch I spent with my best friend of 20 years before she and new hubby moved to Florida July of this year. So that photo has a lot of memories for me. Now I could have posted my modeling comps (all decent poses) from 10 years ago, but naw....I want someone to know the real me now. The photo cannot show my warped sense of humor or my "quick wit", but my writing can.

Thanks for a male perspective. I like to hear both sides. Hmmmmm... is that why she was the most popular? Again, not passing any judgement.
