Difficult Day

Well, today didn't go smoothly at all. I had some problems at work with deadline pressures--something that needs to be done by the end of tomorrow. I had just trained a few folks at work on how to do the task that needed to be done and had started in on my portion of that task, when I got a call from my wife. The nurse was there to change her in-dwelling catheter, and it seems that she couldn't get the one that was already there out. This had happened once before, and we had wound up going to the ER about it. I had suggested cutting the cord--that usually deflates the inflated balloon that holds a catheter in place. The nurse said she'd call my wife's doctor and would call me back if they couldn't solve the problem. Well, about 30 minutes later, I got the call, so I told the necessary folks that I had to go manage the crisis, and then took the 20 minute drive home. When I got there, the nurse was still there, still trying to get the damned thing out. With the permission of my wife's doc, she had cut it as I suggested, but that hadn't worked. The last time, the doc in the ER had used a large-bore needle to aspirate the fluid...neither one of us had a large bore needle, although she'd tried a small-bore one to no avail. She tried a few more times to work it out, but couldn't. Finally, we decided to go to the ER, though that would have been very painful for my wife, waiting there in the ER for hours until we could be seen. Before we went, though, out of despiration, I decided to try, myself...I started with a gentle tug, but kept gradually increasing the pressure.....lo and behold, about the time my wife couldn't stand the pain of it anymore, the remains of the catheter came out, even though the balloon remained inflated through the entire procedure. That turned out to be the least bad solution of the things that could have happened. She was able to be recathed, then she took a few pain pills, called her doc and got a prescription to restart Cipro. I fixed her lunch, had a quick bite, myself, and then it was back to facing the deadline at work.

Most days now, I don't think about physical intimacy much at all. I mostly feel numb. Today is such a day.

The wonderful thing about love is that even though there is soooo much stress when one of you is ill, that love gets you through it, doesn't it! Take a couple of deep breaths and try to stay calm...I know it's not easy!

You have a lot on your plate right now; that "numbing" is probably a coping mechanism.

Take care.....

You are doing Well and things, WILL get better. I've always believed that ALL things happen for a reason. I think you are becoming a stronger person, even tho you may not agree or even see it.

Take care. I am glad you got the job done...sometimes it just takes perseverance.
