A New Calling

day's Devotional

Read: 2 Timothy 1:6–14

Bible in a Year: Jeremiah 20–21; 2 Timothy 4


He has saved us and ced us a holy life. 2 Timothy 1:9

Teenage gang leader Casey and his followers broke in hos and cars, robbed convenience sres, and fought other gangs. Eventuy, Casey was arrested and sentenced. In prison, he beca a “shot cer,” soone who handed out homade knives during riots.

Soti later, he was placed in solitary confinent. While daydreaming in his cell, Casey experienced a “movie” of sorts reing key events of his life—and of Jesus being led and nailed the cross and telling him, “I’m doing this for you.” Casey fell the floor weeping and confessed his sins. Later, he shared his experience with a chaplain, who explained more about Jesus and gave him a Bible. “That was the start of my journey of faith,” Casey said. Eventuy, he was released in the mainline prison population, where he was mistreated for his faith. But he felt at peace, because “[he] had found a new cing: telling other inmates about Jesus.”

In his letter Timothy, the apostle Paul talks about the power of Christ change lives: God cs us from lives of wrongdoing follow and serve Jesus
(2 Timothy 1:9). When we receive Him by faith, we desire be a living witness of Christ’s love. The Holy Spirit enables us do so, even when suffering, in our quest share the good news (v. 8. Like Casey, let’s live out our new cing.

Those who have had a major life changing conversion have a powerful testimony, but so do those who have known Jesus from their youth and avoided a lot of life's pitfalls. He can and will use everyone to witness for Him.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.
