Mother, Mother Ocean

Well, the weather has cleared. A great day on the North Shore. And it is Labor Day. A day off from work. Again, my thanks to the many kind folks who have read my blog and offered their comments. Thank you.

Today, I was reading a recent post from MissMermaid about her spiritual relationship with the ocean. It got me to thinking about my own life. Ever since I can remember, I have been drawn to the ocean. Growing up as a , going to the beach. Playing in the surf for hours on end. Looking out from the shore to sea at night. The lights on the buoys and the lighthouses accentuating the darkness. Wondering what it would be like to go to sea. Well, I did go to sea. And now, many years later, looking back and reflecting, it was the best of times and the worst of times. Crossing the Pacific Ocean. It is a very big ocean. Days upon days. Standing watch. No ships in sight. The stars at night very beautiful. The North Atlantic in winter. Stormy. Huge waves. Just hanging on for dear life. The Caribbean. Always beautiful. Exotic. The dolphins ride the bow wave of the ship for hours on end. The Indian Ocean. Vast. Lonely. My sailing days are over but I still hear the call of those far away places with strange sounding names. And remember.

Your words paint a picture filled with many emotions and I get the sense that as you reflect on the past the ocean brings you peace.

Thanks for sharing this with us!
