What do I know...I'm just a woman with nothing to prove (01/06/07)

Dear Diary,
I just read a very interesting blog that has got me thinking and IMHO is exactly what blogging is all about, putting your views and opinions out there and allowing others the chance to respond in kind. I should also add that while I found the blog interesting, I completely disagree with what the writer had to say.

The question was asked, why do women think they have to prove themselves? My first thought was...why does a man think a woman feels the need to prove herself...to whom...about what?

My second thought was, in the year 2007, I can't believe this question is being asked.Women have nothing to prove, women have never wanted to be "one of the guys", women have just wanted to treated fairly, equally and respected as a human being that has something to offer the world...other than the fact that we can give birth.
The author also seems to link the decline of morals and values in our society to the fact that women want more out of life than just being "the little woman" that stays home, raising the ...basically being the "perfect wife and mother".

There is one thought that the blogger wrote that I can't seem to get out of my head. He liked it better when " women were women and men were men, because we all have a role to play". I believe the "roles" both genders should be playing are being loving, kind, understanding human beings.

Maybe the reason some think women need to prove themselves is because women got tired of being told NO you can't and that NO was based merely on our gender....
Maybe the problem started as a misunderstanding...when women asked why can't we get into the boxing ring like the men do...we didn't actually want to...we just wanted the opportunity to prove we could.

I can't believe this question is still being asked
I can't believe that women still need to explain themselves
Maybe someday this will all be behind us...actually I thought it was
Oh well, what do I know...I'm just a woman with nothing to prove

Life...ya gotta love it!
C.

I agree with you,and I was told once to consider the sourse. Some people just dont get it,but this doesnt keep them from asking such questions.I was told that if you want to learn, just keep your mouth shut, and your ears open.I think this person was just wanting some attention, and even bad attention must be better than no attention.

Sheeesh ... that blogger needs to pull his head out of Ozzie and Harriet's hiney. And, As the old popular saying goes, 'we've come a long way, baby" ..

The blog I am referring to is, "Why do women think they have something to prove" by swm53. Please note that I am not bashing Scott(swm53) or men, I was just reminded of the old saying, "barefoot and pregnant" and I thought we as a society were so beyond that point.

Joe, you are absolutely correct...the problem was and still is at times...we just wanted a chance to screw things up...just like you guys have been doing all along!!!

Newt, as always you summed it up perfectly!

Mrs.Joe, I still say we need to take our show on the road!

Hi Nemo: I have received four private e-mails from the blogger in question with comments like "who do you think you are", "you think you're better than me", "women like you think you are so good". I do not know this person (or want to) but I can say with certainty that he has a big problem with women.

If you try all your best to show you are right and they do not believe you.. then I don't care, I don't have to prove myself anything to anyone.

So for me, I ignore this insinuations. Yes I have read also his blogs.

Thanks for sharing.

Friendly,
Betty
