Riley doesn't live here anymore!

Just about 4 years ago, my the sailor, got a new puppy he named Riley, everything was going well until my finished with his shore duty and he was re-assigned to a ship. Then my realized that getting a was not a very smart idea.
In the Navy, being assigned to a ship means that evey once in awhile the ship is taken out for a "run"...making sure everything is functioning OK...they test all the equipment and play games with other ships that are out...as my says...in the middle of nowhere!
These "runs" can last 2 or 3 days, 2 or 3 weeks or when they deploy, they can be gone for several months as my soon will be...he leaves next week for a 3 month "cruise".

When my was re-assigned, he was at a loss for what to do with Riley. He didn't want to give him away, boarding would be expensive ,so he called me!
I have never been an animal person. I've never had a or cat...we did have a bird when I was a , but I don't think that counts! Anyway, I agreed to take Riley...that was 2 years ago!
I admit that having a was a big adjustment for me. It was like having a at home again, but adjust I did and I admit now that I enjoyed having her here. I think it's true what they say about animals...they do have a calming effect on people.
This past year has been a difficult one for me and my family, especially my youngest sister and her girls. During my father's illness, she was going through a very nasty divorce, her oldest Kim, was and is having some emotional problems and 2 weeks after my dad passed away, my sister had to have their put to sleep. The really was Kim's dog. Which meant Kim had just lost her grandfather, moved into a new house, her parents separated (now divorced) and lost her dog....a lot for a 16 year old to handle.
When I was going to visit my oldest for a week, I called my sister and asked if they would sit Riley...she said sure...when I came back, my niece Kim asked if she could keep Riley.

My sister said it was OK with her.
My said it was OK with him.

So I said to Riley, you know they do have a bigger house and a bigger yard and the girls would be around more than I am to play with you and take you for walks....to which Riley said...

Pack my things...I'm outta here!!!!

I think you will miss him. They have a way of sneaking your heart without you knowing - then wham - you start loving them

Yes, I do miss her....OK, there I said it!!!!

Actually I spent all day yesterday cleaning...still finding dog hairs all over the place, when I suddenly got a little sad, thinking about that darn dog...remembering when each one of my kids moved out.
Geeze...does that mothering thing never end?

Nemo,
Animals do have a way of getting into you're heart, and it doesn't take them long to do it. They just want to be loved and needed. You can always visit her.
