Throw Back Thursday - The Heyookah and Meditation Mountain

My mother was (HOH )hard of hearing due a premature birth. She and my Aunt Martha were best friends in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing High School division. Aunt Martha was hard of hearing via genetics. My mother met my father though his sister Martha thus my brother and I inherited that HOH Gene.

My brother went the Deaf and Hard of Hearing School, while I mainstreamed into regular school. This often consisted of being classified as stupid, weird, and eating lunch alone. My grades were not very good until I reached High School where I managed to make the honor roll.

Fast forward XX plus years later. I knew was a genetic condition so I kept a close eye on my b0ys. My younger s0n inherited the HOH gene along with my alcoholism. He started Deaf and HOH school as a tw0 year 0ld and eventually mainstreamed into regular school.

I found him sitting in my van crying. A few of the at school were calling him ear muffs because of his hearing aids. I should have kept him in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing school but the real world is something that we all have deal with.

I got in the van and we started driving toward Meditation Mountain. I often called him my Heyookah because we always ran into coyotes when we were out in nature.

Meditation Mountain is a place in Ojai where are several pyramid shaped buildings. is a meditation room inside one of the building with a circle of meditation chairs. We took places in the circle and started to meditate. Suddenly tears started flowing down Billy's face and he started chanting, "Billy has lots of friends, E I E I Oh! (manifestation chant courtesy the druids) I am so much more than my hearing. I am my soul, my psyche and chiild of the creator. I am so much more than my hearing. E I E I Oh!!!

As we were leaving the mountain, was a coyote following us. I knew that my chiild was going be just fine.

I often told my son that if he ever got a dog, it would be a pointy ears dog because of all the coyotes that we used to encounter when we were out in nature. Last year, he was out hiking and met a German Shepard on the trail. He eventually ran into the owner's son who said the GH's owner died and the dog got lost in the chaos. Now that dog is in training as my son's service dog.

Beautiful.

Kids can be so cruel at times.

I can't recall any deaf children in school, but I did have a classmate who was blind. Most of the girls were really nice, maybe a handful had a mean streak in them, but we avoided them whenever possible. Cathy, the one who was blind, was never bullied, I think we spoiled her a bit because we couldn't do enough to help her. Oh, it was an all girls boarding school, I think we were too afraid of the nuns to ever act out, lol, we saw what happened to the bullies when they behaved badly. Cathy was with us for only one year and then her parents sent her to a school for the blind.

So happy for your son and his new dog!

So glad everything worked out for your son and his dog, happy ending.

I have often wondered what the hell makes some kids so cruel and spiteful. I remember being bullied at school, and my son was bullied because he had a speech problem.

The lovely word 'serendipitous' comes to mind - accidentally being in the right place at the right time. Makes for magical moments
