Photo Friday - The Letter E

Urban Chickens were not permitted in the town I live before selling the house and moving a few towns away. Happily chickens are allowed in WSS, WV.

I buy them from my step-, an ROTC instructor from my spiritual community or the preacher's wife. It assures that the eggs from cage free or free roaming chickens in the case of the ROTC instructor.

Ironically, it is the Chicken that helps the Haitian people rise out of desperate circumstances. Eggs are an inexpensive protein and if the chickens reproduce fast enough they can be protein too. The manure can fertilize the crops. It can also be a source of income.

My grandparents raised chicken - all free roaming - and I learned to love those early morning Cock-A-Doodle-Doos.

I never even thought of eggs. My grandma had chickens in town when I was a kid, as did several other folks. Later, they passed an ordinance against it, but anyone who already had them were grandfathered in.... they just were not to replace them.
Gramma decided to go ahead and do away with hers, but there were a couple of folks who had the longest living chickens we had ever heard of.
LOL.

Nothing like range free eggs. When I was growing up on the farm we always had chickens and thus fresh eggs. The chickens would roam about outside during the summer. The egg yolks were a beautiful golden yellow. At night we had to round them up and make sure they were all in the coop. We had coyotes that would hang around. Good post Starwomyn!

I remember going to the local farmer every week to buy eggs for my grandmother. My parents reared chickens from time to time, great to have those lovely fresh eggs, warm from the nest.

Great post for E-week! It's good that chickens are allowed where you live.

A day without dance is .... just kidding. I have no idea!

Eggs ... yes! And at this time I already want to eat fried eggs with tomato sauce and red beans for dinner ...
