Photo Friday - WATER!!! It is ironic how a community devastated by water needs water for recovery from the aftermath. Greenbrier County was by the 1000 year flood in 20Xvi. I was coming back from a DAR function when the Flood Warning came on my girlfriend's car radio. I've heard it before and did not panic. I usually take the scenic Route 219 home but decided make a stop at Wal-Mart the way home. I opted skip the trip Wal-Mart and jumped Interstate 64 head home instead. When I got off of Interstate 64 and started going down Route 219 - It was like the scene from a Sci_Fi Movie. The roads were falling apart all around me. It was one of those so called coincidences that I took I-64 instead of heading to Rt-219 all the way home. I would have been caught in a really dangerous situation if I had taken the usual way home. Luckily, I live on a hill so our building was safe. That was not the case for so many living below. I wish that I could have been one of folks helping to clean the debris and rebuilding but that is not a physical reality for anymore. At least I was able do a little something. Many of the folks in my building don't have cars. There was no water or electricity. I was able find and deliver water for those who needed it. It is amazing how those disasters do bring the community together. There was a church group from Marshall County, West Virginia who drove across the state to help. They were among many. They made my mission of helping those in my building easier.       Abracadabra  |

The first photo was take from I-64 of RT 219 If I had not decided to take a different route home, I would have been in the middle of that mess on RT 219 The second photo is downtown White Sulphur Springs, Down the hill from my home. The third and fourth photos are the water that I was able to deliver to the homebound folks in my building The Final Photo is folks from the Church of God in Marshall County, West Virginia who travelled across the state to help thier own. People helping people is life is all about. How long ago did this happen? I used to think nothing of driving through flooded areas in the road until several years ago. Just up the road from us, a small creek flowed out of it's banks and when it receded there was a chunk of the road way that had lifted and been moved to the ditch. It was the entire width of the road, about a car length long, and a couple of feet deep. Anyone driving into that would have gotten their car stuck and possibly swept down the embankment. Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

Water, water everywhere but not a drop to drink. Interesting pictures and story. It's wonderful the way people come together to lend a helping hand in time of need.

THOSE PHOTOS REMIND ME OF WHAT HAPPENED IN THE VESUBIE AND ROYA VALLEYS HERE. THE DAMAGE IS STILL FAR FROM REPAIRED, RESIDENTS OF REMOTE VALLEYS STILL HAVE NO PROPER ROADS. MANY PEOPLE WERE WITHOUT RUNNING WATER AND ELECTRICITY FOR WEEKS. HOW NICE OF YOU TO BE ABLE TO HELP A LITTLE.

It never ceases to amaze how powerful the forces of nature can be. Disasters do seem to bring communities together, everyone pitching in where they can. I'm sorry for those whose homes/buildings were directly affected by the floodwaters.

Good job! Every year we can see these kinds of disasters in this country. Last year was terrible because of hurricanes ETA and IOTA. Trust in dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity.(Khalil Gibran)
