Cancelling William Penn and Gender Based Pronouns

Sometimes, I think the world is going mad. Gender based pronouns are being banned from Congress. That means he and she become they. Father and become Parents while Aunts and Uncles become Siblings of the Parents. Sons and Daughters are Offspring's, Brothers and Sisters become Siblings. Cousins are still cousins regardless of gender.

I received an e- today asking for suggestions for name changes for the William Penn House. The William Penn House has always been a special place for me but unfortunately ran into difficulties and was taken over by the FCNL.

It has been a quiet, peaceful, affordable place with Quaker values within walking distances from the Capitol. William Penn was one of the main figurehead in American Quakerism who promoted religious freedom in the colonies of Pennsylvania and Delaware. This snowballed into the First Amendment after the American Revolution.

Unfortunately, William Penn was a slave owner as were many of our Founding Fathers and some of our ancestors. Thus the reasoning for the changing of the name of of the William Penn House.

There are other historical figures in Quakerism but none as prominent as William Penn. The history of mankind is not always pretty but we can take the lessons to progress and do better. I am not going to kick the tombstones of my ancestors for what was an accepted practice in that time and is now unacceptable.

So............ I sent a response to the FCNL objecting to changing the name of the William Penn House but if they must do it, perhaps name it the Richard Nixon House after another Quaker who also has a flawed history.

We could also name the house after our Quaker Meeting Clerk.

It seems so ridiculous to reach back in history and judge, condemn, and hang someone for what was not a crime at the time.... and was actually acceptable behavior.
By trying to change history, rewrite it, cancel it, and make it null and void, future generations will not learn from it, so some day it might just be repeated.
This cancel culture is out of hand, and is starting to spread to current people with whom some do not agree with their political views today.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

Seems to me that William Penn, were he alive today, would appreciate the changes.......After all, he invented the Amendable Constitution ....to accommodate the future generations' needs to make changes in the laws as society changed and adapted to new ideas.

If William Penn were still around, we would all be speaking Shakespearean English

In William Penn's day, all the British schools were affiliated with the Anglican church, who didn't allow the risque writings of William Shakespeare to enter their hallowed halls.

Gender based pronouns banned? Yeah right ... says the party who wasn't allowed to say Merry Christmas until Trump showed up.
