Merry Thanksgiving and assumptionS!!!

The story was that folks at Starbucks would order coffee and have the cashier write Merry Christmas on the cup to force the barista to shout out "Merry Christmas!"

This is based on the assumption that the barista and the customers have non-Christian beliefs and object to saying Merry Christmas. There is also an assumption that everyone works at Chick-Fil-A is going to be anti-gay.

It's silly!

I love Lattes and the barista can call me Bah Humbug! and I am fine with that. It is not that easy to find a well-made latte in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. We had one coffee house that has recently closed down.

So when I travel to Washington D.C., I always find a Starbucks. There are a couple of them at the Union Station. I was at a lobbying event in November of 20. My lobbying partner and I found a Starbucks. The barista and I were joking about the "Merry Christmas" scenario. He didn't care what the customer wanted to be written on the cup as long as the customer tipped well. I asked him to write "Merry Thanksgiving" on my cup. This gave him a laugh included with the tip.

Later, we got a that Senator Manchin wanted to meet us personally but would be available on the following Tuesday. My lobbying partner was leaving before that day but I decided to keep the appointment. I could talk to him on a different topic. I talked to someone from FCNL and they paired me up with a staff member worked on the problems with mass incarceration. I was working for a women's recovery house thus I could talk about the drug problem in West Virginia.

My lobbying partner is now in Medical School. Yippee! She told me that the black community where she grew up was vibrant and alive. Manchin ended up co-sponsoring the bill and Trump signed it into law a few years ago.

Assumptions about how people should be is not always accurate.

Yes, there is a problem with assumptionS..
But I think you need to ask yourself what is the problem?

Obviously the problem is in our confusion and choices.

A confusion that is based on inconsistencies
A choice, based on ability to make a correct one from the inconsistencies.
Assumptions, can both self serving, and a search for the truth.

So, I'm going to make another assumption..In search of the Truth.

Show Us who you are.. don't tell Us who you want to be.
Don't add to the inconsistencies.. To create more confusion.
Don't provide yourself an "out".. You don't need one, Unless you are the only one who thinks you do. You try to defend yourself.. You do it all the time.. Like I'm not as bad as you assume I am.. So you defend yourself.. not against the lie of the assumption.... but the truth of it.
Maybe correct assumptions are good, maybe wrong assumptions are bad..But to try an make the assumptions wrong regardless, Is to deny the truth.. A confusion to the truth, and the inconsistencies of the truth...When the truth is your responsibility.. not ours.
When the inconsistency, confusion and denial of the truth....Is YOUR OWN self serving ASSUMPTION, of what COULD be the Truth, Not what is the Truth.
You make Trump proud!

The problem with assuming about others, is that it makes an ass out of u and me. (ass-u-me) both literally and figuratively. Life is pretty simple, and doesn't need long convoluted assessments. You are who you are, and I am who I am. You and I accept that, and are friends.
I don't care what greeting anyone says, or if they even say one..... but just give me the right to say the one I chose to say. If someone says, "Happy Holiday" to me, I smile and say "Thank you." Some times, I'll say, "And the same to you" or I'll say, "Merry Christmas". The words aren't as important as the friendly intent.

I come from a group of folks who would tell you to "Take your own INVENTORY," versus taking someone else.

Yes .. don't just say it.. Do it.

Take inventoiry of that which leads people to their assumption..Evidence to the contrary doesn't cut it.

It's like " I'm not a racist because i got black friends"... finding the exception to your rules.. doesn't change the rule.

When the rules become labels - the target has the option of accepting or rejecting the label. It's like saying people from the South are racist or people from New York are snobs and people of color are victims.

I remember when folks would hand the Wal-Mart Cashiers religious tracts thus assuming the cashiers are heretics in need of salvation. The reality is that most of the cashiers were church attendees.

There was a case where a Chick-Fil-A employee was reprimanded and shamed because of the CEO's stance on gay marriages when in reality those views were not her own. She was just working for a paycheck.

Yeah, and now that Chick-Fil-A is donating to different charities, the Christians are braying that they have been BETRAYED by a company that they have been supporting because they agreed with their donation choices.......Apparently it wasn't all about the chicken after all.....

Some folks are having a cow because Chick-Fil-A donated $25,00 to the Southern Poverty Law Center. Big FiretrUCKING deal. The company actually has a foundation where different groups can apply for grants. I could have applied for a grant from them when I worked at the women's recovery house. Anybody can apply for a grant, the company has the option of saying yea or nay. It's their money.

Off the subject of the blog, but touching on something you mentioned..... Starbucks. Personally, I do not care for brewed coffee or any of it's variations, so for me to buy something there would be a waste of my money. But for those who like it, that's fine, it's their money. I just don't see the fascination for it.
One little fall treat that I do, or should I say, did, enjoy was Pumpkin Spice Cappuccino and it can be found at just about any of our gas stations that serves coffee from a machine. I don't indulge myself with it much any more because of what it does to my blood sugar, but at one time I was addicted to it. Now, IF I have any, I limit myself to one for the whole season.
