Condoleezza Rice, illiberalism & Conservative Friends

If you're always in the company of people agree with you, you're going to think of people don't agree with you as venal or stupid. I constantly tell my students that if they're in the company of people always say "amen" to what you say, find other company. And that is the source of illiberalism when you are unable to listen to someone thinks differently. That's when democracies are in trouble.
Condoleezza Rice

Even if you have a brain predisposed to liberalism, you might end up with some conservative friends or find inspiring conservative models could be very influential on you, and that could you down a different track in life. Jonathan Haidt

Trump released the transcript of his conversation with the Ukrainian President. Apparently, Hunter Biden is a lawyer and representing an unsavory client connected to the Embassy. Big FiretrUCKING deal. Hillary Clinton Represented a man who assaulted a child. Both were doing what lawyers do which is providing the best defense possible for their clients. Hillary's client ended up doing time but not as much as he deserved. Biden was able to block his client from going to trial. This is not criminal behavior so why are the Democrats in Congress screeching "impeachment!" Apparently, they encourage minorities into their party for the same reason they excluded them in the 1950s. It's all about political power.

Politics is a blood sport. From the millions killed in the World Wars to the hundreds killed by Fast and Furious guns to the several Clinton "suicides". Anyone who doesn't play it that way isn't serious.

Sax is right, politics is a blood sport........ just ask JFK and Lincoln.
As for having friends with a variety of thoughts, I have some liberal friends and when their speech just gets too outrageous, I let them rant and ignore it. Same for conservative friends. However, I can discuss issues with conservative friends, issues in which we don't agree, and not end up with them mad about it and calling me names. That usually doesn't happen with liberal friends, so I avoid those confrontations.

Extremism on either side is problematic. I have always been a moderate leaning to the left but moving more toward the right. I have been called names either way but found that it easier to maintain friendships with conservatives who are willing to respect the differences. There is a lot of misinformation and stereotyping of conservatives that is totally inaccurate. There is also a lot of false information from the media circulation. I was recently at a gathering where a woman was quoting false information. The Headline : Black woman Jailed for 15 years for sending a son to school in a predominately white district. The Real Story: This was a homeless woman using the babysitter's address to enroll her son in a school. This created problems for the babysitter who was living in HUD housing. She should have used the shelter address. She was actually arrested for drug distribution and prostitution. The woman was looking at 15 years - pleaded it down - got 5 years and was released after 3 years. I pointed out the facts of the case. The woman at the gathering kept insisting that a black woman was sentenced to 15 years for sending her son to a predominantly white school. I just let it go. Que Sera Sera!

I remember reading about that headline and the actual circumstances. The media only seems to want to sensationalize things, whether true or not and then don't correct themselves when proven wrong.
The sad part is people that see and believe the erroneous articles believe them and swear by them, even when proven wrong. They don't take time to do any research.

I've often considered Condi as a viable POTUS candidate. I'm not sure about Ari, but they just might make a good team. Perhaps in 2024?
