Liberal Bakers, Conservative Weddings and Bad Mamas

]Liberal cries when the baker refused to bake a cake for him and sues the baker.
Conservative laughs at the baker who refuses to bake a cake for him because it's bad business and takes his business elsewhere.

My late husband and I were married at a Nudist Resort in August of 1995. We went to a bakery down the road from the resort to order two cakes and the bakery refused to bake the cakes because it included the logo of the nudist resort.

We had a good laugh because there were quite a few weddings at this resort and this bakery was losing lots of potential business. We certainly wouldn't go to that bakery for non-wedding related baked goods. gOOgle research reveals that this bakery eventually went out of business.

Instead, we went to the local bakery in our hometown and they baked the cakes. Admiration for the cakes inspired others to do business with this bakery.

My mother flew in from Arkansas a few weeks before the wedding to go to the wedding. I purchased a bus pass for her so she and her grandsons had a blast going to the beach. I took her to the Clothing Optional Beach, a Psychic Fair, a Male Strip Show and the Bachelorette Party.

My grandmother would telephone and tell my mother that she was "being BAD!" BAD Mama was being influenced by her BAD . It was so much fun.
I made sure that she had a great big towel to carry with her at the nudist resort. She also wore the Tree House Resort teeshirt on the plane back to Arkansas and for her bowling league the following day.

My bridal bouquet was a single sunflower.

I was a nudist in my youth.....I had a wealthy older friend who had hiss own lake and an amazing house and he had a lot of great parties....I remember treading water while a man poured champagne in my mouth.......and lounging on the dock while musicians played and I watched some baby ducks try and walk on lily-pads.......I was naked and sharing a hookah full of golden, sticky hashish that smelled like Christmas trees, my hair flowing over my naked brown breasts....I had several elegant Djellabas that I would wear to thee parties and I would go down to the dock and whip off my Djellaba and dive into the lake, stark naked.........What a rush!

I was a caretaker one summer at a co-operative nudist haven at Lake Cowichan outside of Victoria........It was once a farm. A group of professionals in Vic. bought it together and built summer cottages and community facilities there....It was pretty rustic, but so beautiful. The old farmhouse crowned a hill. It was stone and dressed timber with floor-to ceiling windows along the wall facing the lake......and a communal bath-house on stilts along the shore with a sauna....when we emerged from the sauna, we would jump into the lake instead of cold showers..........I grew an amazing garden and my boyfriend and I were alone there on weekdays......We were brown and golden ......he made Muesli every night in a single bowl that we would share every morning, entwined in the hammock-..........Was I really ever that young?

I still walk around the house naket, but I stopped running out to the mailbox in the buff when I couldn't move fast any more. Does that count? LOL.

It is amazing how the liberals of today want to stop and shut down anyone or anything they don't like. I feel like live and let live, I don't have to participate if I don't want.

And Rosa Parks could have just laughed and given up her seat on the bus to a white passenger ... as she was told to do.

But she didn't ..

I also run around the house naked but keep a long teeshirt closeby in case someone knocks on the door. I've considered the possibility of greeting Jehovah Witnesses in the buff. It's not a pretty sight at my age.

That was really BAD customer service on the part of the transportation company. It resulted in folks organizing and boycotting the bus company. They did the same to businesses that segregated people.

It's very similar to what happened to the Bakery that refused to make our wedding cakes. They lost business because the Nudist Resort was right up the road. My husband and I were not interested in a big legal fight. We just wanted cakes for our wedding.

What you call "really bad customer service" the civilized world calls oppression.

You and your husband could have had a "big legal fight" if you wanted it. And you might have won exactly what you deserved … a couple of cakes.

Difference is Rosa Parks and those like her have their eye on the prize … the prize called FREEDOM.

The difference is that Rosa Parks was paying the same fare that a caucasian was paying to be treated like a second rate customer and arrested for refusing to act like one. MLK Junior and Ralph Abernathy organized a boycott which hurt the transportation company so that they had to clean up their act.

My husband and I didn't feel particularly oppressed as nudists. If a baker feels uncomfortable putting the Treehouse Logo on a cake, I would feel bad if I forced them to do it although it gave our fellow nudists a good laugh. It would be hilarious if a bunch of Beltane celebration pagans came in to order some cakes. Beltane is a fertility festival and things can be really graphic.

The situation between the gay couple wanting a wedding cake and the Christian baker is a balance between wanting acceptance and freedom of religion. Should we force a Christian minister to perform a same-sex wedding if the minister is morally opposed to it? It may be more practical for that gay couple to go down the street to another church that will perform the wedding with no problem. The minister a few blocks from my home is a woman legally married to another woman.

Personally, I would bake the wedding cake for a gay couple in a West Virginia second and even have fun baking cakes for Beltane. Still, I have to respect another who has issues with it because of religious reasons. The first amendment means to respect someone else's religious beliefs even if they are not your own.

You want to know if " we should force a Christian minister to perform a same-sex wedding if the minister is morally opposed to it?

I suggest you read the Bible. In the New Testament Jesus Christ clearly explains … and calls for separation of Church and State.

My not so humble opinion, they should all be declared civil unions when means insurance, property, and financial rights regardless of gender. Let the churches declare them marriages.
