The Joys of Being A Senior Activist!!!! My activism started when I was about 10 . I wrote a letter to President Johnson because my hearing impaired brother was being denied a public education. Agencies were contacted, the school caught hades and the letter was published in the newspaper. The civil rights era was in force. I was asking my grandparents difficult questions. Letters to the Editor followed. So several decades later when I connected with the Religious Society of Friends, I knew it was a good fit for my spiritual journey. So now I a senior activist with a problematic hip and a temperamental heart beat. I have slept on church floors and had to climb on top bunks during a lobbying events. Our Quaker meeting is so small being a bench warmer is not an option so I was thrown into service quickly. Last week was plans to travel to Philadelphia for an American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) gathering. I knew I would be travelling to Washington D.C. with plans to hike to Capital Hill to educate congress. It seems like since I entered my 60's - my body is falling apart and medicine doesn't make it better. I was not looking forward to hiking all over Philly and D.C. in pain. I tend to procrastinate going to doctors. Nevertheless, I did a prayer " I really want to be your servant and do your work. I the energy and resources to do it. I can't be hobbling around Capitol Hill huffing and puffing. HELP! I drove over to Med Express, still having a conversation with my Higher Power. Whatever the doc did worked. A shot in the butt and some pills. It's not perfect but it sure could be a lot worse. I prefer lifestyle changes but sometimes we to get more aggressive action. Life on life's terms. |

Glad to see you are still on the move. Yes, we can always see things could be worse. Sometimes, that is just the pick me up we need. Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.
