Interesting Book Club Discussions My Book Club adventures had an interesting outcome. Most of the attendees were also on the bus for the Women's March which led to some interesting discussion. West Virginia has been traditionally Democrat but also conservative. On the other hand, West Virginia was one of the first states to do away with Jim Crow laws and opted not to challenge the Supreme Court when they refused to even deal with the Gay Marriage challenges. I remember talking to a young man at work who happens to be gay. He said that it was surprising that West Virginia would accept the legitimacy of Gay Marriages. We talked about Senator Manchin who is a moderate Democrat and the only Democrat who managed to stay in office after the elections. Manchin will stand up to the mob and explain why he takes the stances that he does. He explains how he was Governor and wanted the people in his cabinet that work with him best thus he had to respect Trump's right to choose his people. It seems reasonable to me. He also descended from a coal mining family thus understands the West Virginia stance on coal. The importance of coal is diminishing. I suspect that Maisie is correct in surmising that coal will go by the wayside along with whale oil as a means of energy. Right now, they are looking at natural gas but eventually clean energy will come into place. This will happen with or without Trump's participation in the Paris agreement. Never belonged to a book club, but it sounds like your group expands into current issues as well. That's good if it is an exchange of ideas and not a scream fest. BTW, I wish your comments read from the top down, instead of the bottom up.... that's my personal preference, but I'll read your blogs either way. Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.
