Has Union lost its power?

Where I work has a union, I try to buy USA made but every where I go to shop, More things are made outside the USA. And so many recalls from pet food ,toys and medical supplies. I have been cut back from 53 hours a week at work to 40, a lost of around of about $400 a week. Our Union has asked us to work smart by saving every chance we get and to conserve. By saving the company money we become more completive in the world marketplace. Our company is going threw slow times and has cut back to 4 day of production a week. I think it is time for all americans to take america back. Where we don't have to depend on countries for our energy, and most of the thing that we use every days. We need fair trade not a lop sided trade agreement. I guess I am listening to much to the news at what is going around the world. What are your thoughts on this. Leeroy

You shouldn't have to depend on other countries for your energy, but that not likely to change soon given how much Americans love their cars, air conditioners, and 4,000 sq ft houses.

The US had vast amounts of energy reserves in the form of coal and oil shale deposits. These sources are uneconomic to exploit at this point, and are very polluting. An approach to the energy problem along the lines of the Manhattan project or putting a man on the moon might address the matter.

In the meantime, countries like Canada are making a bundle selling you energy.

Unions do not create jobs Companies do. Other than protecting work abuse and worker rights unions should stay out of salary demands and benefit packages. Thats the free markets job. I wish you the best and yes we do need to buy American. But when the product made overseas is superior and cost less than American made what are we supposed to do?
