Who's to blame for high gas prices?

The other day while at the Barbershop everyone was talking about why gas prices were so high and going higher. So what do you think?
President Bush
Opec
Supply and demand
war in Iraq
refineries
too many suv's
donald duck
Big oil companies
none of above
Leeroy

Hi Leeroy,
There is a lot of oil I think..but not enough refineries. I'm not sure who owns the refineries or how the tax grant system works, but I feel that is where the 'bottle neck' is....imho
Also, please remember that a healthy portion of the price per gal/litre is tax the gov't gets.
Take care!!

Refineries are owned and operated by the oil companies. Not all oil co's have refineries everywhere. The retailers get their product from the nearest one, no matter who owns it. So if you go to an Exxon station, the odds are that the petrol didn't come from an Exxon refinery.

My comment was not serious. You can blame Bush and the neo-cons. I heard an interview with a US economist who thinks that the price of oil would be 20 bucks lower if Iraq had not been invaded. If he is correct, then you are right to blame Bush.

I'm one of the oil company stockholders who is profiting from Mr. Bush's policies, by the way.

ex prime minister margret thatcher is credited with the quote -- you cant buck the market ~~ ha,one of the few things she got right !!

as growing economies like china comsume more and more of the black gold - oil is only going one way -- thats way up in price better than worrying about the price of petrol/gasoline look carefully at what you use , a car doing less than 40 miles a gallon is a dinosour and why drive miles to a shopping mall when your corner shop will have what you want all be it at a few coppers more

get yourself a bicycle or moped - the extra excercise will do us all a world of good - now turn of the unused lighting and turn down the thermostat , the savings are emense - hey where quids in already !!

It's being discussed as a way to supply electricity for extracting oil for the Alberta tar sands.

France gets 60% of its electrical power from nuclear plants, and doesn't seem to have any problems.

What if we drive less? What if we close half the parking lots in city centres to discourage driving? What if triple the registration fees on cars with more than four cylinders?
