Camping in the past

On my last blog Abelle2 made a comment about the coffee and about Mt Rainier which brought back more memories of the past.

In 1962, I was twelve at the time, when my parents decided to migrate to Washington state to pick fruit in Yakima valley for the summer. At the time things were very slow in Arkansas as in other states in the south. My Uncles had made the trip the last three years and made enough money to make threw the winter. As soon as school was out we packed up and drove the three days to Washington state. We camped the three nights on the way out. We had a great time with roasting hot dogs and the marsh mellows. I remember camping in Wyoming. It looked like we could reach up and pick the star right out of the heavens. Man did we have so much fun, seeing all the big rocks and all the different people. When we got to Yakima valley we stayed in a little town of Bueana and began picking fruit. We attended The Assembly of God church. The church sponsored a three day camping trip Which took us to Mt. Rainier. We set up camp there and was having a great time. There is just something about hot dogs and hamburger cooked over a open fire. We got to bed about 11:00 pm after putting our food in a cooler and raising above the ground on a rope to limb. The next campsite over didn't and left theirs on picnic table. About 1:30 AM we one heck of a racket women screaming men hollering. A bear had came into the camp and tore everything up. Luckily no one was hurt. We moved on the the next day to I believe the name of city was Ocean city where we camped. I will stop here and finish up in a few days Love ya all wilber

Funny how a comment brings up buried memories. Glad I could help. Ann
