my courageous wife Patricia has had a right hip and total right knee replacement ~ thankfully here in the uk the operation and all supporting aftercare is free to the paitient

after the operation having family or friends who will help with the knee bends etc is a boon , you cant leave hospital untill you can bend the knee thro' 90 degrees and there after the physio friend or relative is needed to help continue to bend the knee

in Pats case i had a piece of thick plywood 2ft square that i placed on the bed for her to rest the knee on, that way the knee is kept supported and i pulled the knee thro its arc almost crying myself as i knew just how much she was hurting

NOTE ~ during the physio the replacement knee is metal and it gets very hot to touch a bag of ice or frozen peas is a good investment to cool the knee , also there is often no feelings in the front of the knee for a year or so and some folks are never able to kneel for more than a few seconds there after ( it can play hell with your sex life )

but persevere with the knee bends for now several years later Patricia walks and visits a gym several times a week ~ that grinding none stop pain is long gone
, good luck

Mrsjoe, good for you! By the way, try 'Traumeel' cream... it also contains Arnica and other great properties. It's widel used for relief of arthritis, sports (& other) injuries, relief for heel spurs etc. The Glucosamine mix you mention is also great... I've used it myself. You're right about the weight and its affects on knees (& joints etc); many friends have said the very same thing. It's amazing how Larry healed so well (& quickly) following his surgery (with his ongoing exercising etc).

I now of two that had knee replacement surgery. One needs a second knee replacement. Unfortunately he is on his 2nd surgery for the first knee. It came loose??? And now on pain killers and considering a nerve block surgery ultimately with an implant. YIKEs.

Last week went to the viewing of another that just had one a knee replacement couple of days prior and was recuperating in the hospital. Then died of an aneurysm .

Not knowing the type of aneurysm, searching found much to learn about.

I have met and heard from those that had the (apparently successful) surgery but it seems they don't talk about it much.

Searched [success rate "knee replacement"] and ["knee replacement" problems] but way too much information and 'Dr hype' (key 'disclaimer'? words like 'selected candidates' etc.) to get any value from it.

[905 once in a while] "Wow, we are spoiled in Canada, I would be outraged if I had to spend that much money on a non elective surgery."

Imagine that. "Free" Stuff. So who really 'pays' the difference for it?

[905 once in a while] Signature "Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but no one is entitled to their own facts. Hugh Segal"

Another cutesy meaningless statement. A fact is a fact. Whether you chose to recognize it or not.

[905 once in a while] "I guess you don't read too many blogs about Canada's health care system otherwise you would know that there is no free health care up here, it is paid for by our taxes. You know the money we send to the government and then they use it to pay our full medical expenses, therefore, there is no difference. They do this for everyone. Clear enough now?"

Clear enough? Your hilarious. You made the 'PUBLIC' statement "Wow, we are spoiled in Canada, I would be outraged if I had to spend that much money on a non elective surgery."

Glad you recognize it isn't free. Might need to explain yourself up front. NOT expecting the reader to "read Canadian blogs" to understand what you really mean. Geeesh

"[905 once in a while] "Paraphrasing my signature does not change the fact that both statements mean the same thing"

Really? In your mind? What 'fact' that be? Can you support it with 'validation'? Cute but no cigar.

The use of 'out of context' phrases that imply some wisdom are meaningless with out the whole. And, ironically bites the user as they forget it's there while they go on to to say something that make it or them laughable.

"[905 once in a while] "but I will email Hugh for you and tell him you didn't like his statement. Maybe he will give his speech over again and incorporate your suggested change"

Your explain doesn't change anything. Emailing your the author'? For em? Don't put the blame on him for your errant use of it. Chuckle

[905 once in a while] "Now, go away and stop trying to pester me."

If you go on stage with misleading or misinformation, you get challenged. Not pestered.
