Today’s ObamaCare triumph: UPS drops coverage for 15,000 spouses

“If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor. Period. If you like your health care plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan. Period. No one will take it away. No matter what.” – Barack Obama, July 2009

Today’s ObamaCare triumph is the announcement by United Parcel Service that it will drop working spouses from its health care plan, loudly and repeatedly citing the Affordable Care Act as the reason

The company told white-collar workers two months ago that 15,000 working spouses eligible for coverage at their own employers would be excluded from the UPS plan in 2014.

While acknowledging that overall health spending continues to rise, the company also blamed cost increases on the Affordable Care Act’s research fee (initially $1 per health plan member, then rising to $2) and an a temporary fee of $63 per member to stabilize new online marketplaces for consumers buying directly from insurers

Liberals sneer that management is just using ObamaCare as an “excuse” for cost-cutting. But it could also be said that the private sector responds to universal burdens differently than individual challenges. If the cost of labor is going up for everyone, then every company starts thinking about cutting hours, eliminating jobs altogether, and reducing benefits

Of course, liberals think millions of dollars in cost are a pittance, because they’re accustomed to Big Government printing up a fresh pile of deficit dollars to cover such trifles. This is particularly true if corporate planners were already considering certain courses of action.

Obamacare is a train wreck, largely through the efforts of lobbyists how saw the interests of their clients endangered.

The US has universal government paid health care for veterans and seniors.

Why should the rest of the population not have it?

An so it will continue until we finally get the profit of insurance companies off the table. Health care should not be "for profit". Not sure that is possible given our current political mix of capitalism and socialism.

As I responded on another post I am brushing off the herbal and natural treatment skills of my strega practice and plan to not need healthcare for anything except major surgeries and serious injuries. My goal is to be able to take care of most things as my grandmother did. Seems to have worked well as all of her family lived into their 90's.

When the Obama Administration delays certain parts of the law, which by the way is unconstitutional, one remembers Nancy Pelosi saying "We have to pass it to know whats in it." Then Max Baucus, one of the principal authors, calls it a "train Wreck". I really don't think the country is ready for OBAMACARE!!!
as I recall, Pelosi said pass it and then we will read it!

its more than a train wreck,,, its a nation wreck..... and the lobbyists you mention are the UNIONS... that was payback for getting him elected. There is and never has been "universal" coverage for anyone in the USA. If everyone received the health care vets and seniors get, we would have boatload(S) of people occupying hospitals... they are not getting any free ride that anyone wants.. believe me...vets hospitals are a disaster. ask any vet!

of course it was a corporate decision. Healthcare is a corporation. what the hell does bottom line thinking mean, define please? Do you live in America? health care if free, all you have to do is get to a county hospital..thats the law... the only difference is that the taxpayer pays for those that aren't covered... now we all pay, including those that don't pay taxes... by the way, are you short on blades? We can get the government to send you some free ones.

There are 53 million people in the US without healthcare coverage. 11 million should not be here. Even after Obamacare, 23 million will not have healthcare. It will cost trillions for Obamacare, but then Obamacare was never about universal healthcare. It is a way to repay unions, community organizers, and government workers for their support of Obama!! A very high price to pay to fix nothing!!!
totally agree with everything you stated.. but not sure about your numbers..... realistically speaking, parts of the ACA make some sense, but certainly not 2675 pages of it.

Several of the vets in SFF think it's pretty good.
