Thoughts of a Simple Man Surfing The Wave Greetings Good People SURFING THE WAVE After a very interesting conversation regarding ‘Control’ and ‘Surfing the Wave’. I decided to put some thought to it . I’m going to leave the Control bit for the moment as when you grasp the concept of Surfing the Wave the control bit is actually irrelevant. Combating the elements I think it would be fair to say that for whatever reason we as humans seem to do our best at fighting the forces of nature , not always on purpose but we do anyway. I will use Ki and the four elements that go with it to make it whole. Earth Controversial this one. Why do so many people live in and around dangerous places. San Andreas fault, Ring of Fire Mt Etna, Etc. Earthquakes, Volcanoes . Need I say more. Wind I guess most of us have been caught in a storm at some point in our lives. Howling wind at speed and we have either attempted to meet it head on and battle through it, gone with it but braced because we don’t want to go at the same speed or gone adjacent to the wind and lost balance Fire. Here is one of four which does not occur on its own but is probably the most destructive of all the elements and generally because of our own doing and manufacture . No matter how we seem to want to find how and touch. Extinguishing fire is also a challenge depending on what is burning. Yet we have manufactured so many things which require a variety of agents to put them if they ignite. Water I see water as the yin yang of the elements when still it reflects the perfect image of the moon. The ebb and flow of the tide is the same as breathing in and . It has the ability to change, vapour, liquid, solid When combined with other forces of nature it becomes very powerful .This brings me to the point of Surfing the Wave. When faced with an oncoming wave we have choices, jump over it, dive trough it let it us full on or go with it. The later always seems the less likely as we have gone into the water and the attitude of I’m standing here and I am not moving’ takes effect. We get battered swept off our feet and we go back and stand again. The seasoned Surfer with always go with the flow he chooses the right time to stand to steer with energy ’touch the wave’ does his best to maintain balance and ride it . With perfect practice the surfer can do this repeatedly. The surfer is well aware he has no control of the wave or what it might do he accepts this and rides with it in that very moment and makes adjustments accordingly. Doing this often gives a sense of achievement therefore a better wellbeing Do not fight against these elements work with them. Accept, modify ,adapt, change direction and or seek help |

First, just a word of advice. There is a strange perk in the blogs that a blog will not show up on the blog page unless there is a comment. Sort of a catch 22, right? How can there be a comment if nobody sees the blog? So we all make the first comment on a new blog, so it will be visible to others. I just happen to see it in the newly created blog section. As for the waves, I have always admired those I've seen on TV but never seen the big ones in person. I've watched surfers riding the smaller waves and thought they looked like they were having a great time. I enjoy watching the ocean, but not necessarily being in it, even wading. The shifting sands make me uncomfortable because if I fell, I couldn't get up very easily anymore. I like your painting. Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.

Interesting view.....I haven't done much surfing, but I've always lived within sight of the ocean and moved through / across it in many ways that did not require an engine, like sailing, rowing, paddling ....Sailing being my passion, as I ride that elemental meeting of wind and water in all it's moods ....
