Old Cast

While rummaging around in Grandpa's shed I seen this cast iron device.

It looks like it held an old kerosene lamp at on time or a potted plant.

A piece seems to have broken off that held it in place to a wall mounting bracket. I may try to brush off the rust, then see if it can drill and peg it. I will then fabricate a wall mounting bracket to hold it.

Thanks for the multiple view of this interesting old piece. It is now much easier to visualize. I don't recognize what it might have been used for, but your guesses are probably close. I lean towards a wall bracket for a kerosene lamp. It will look cool if you can get it cleaned and polished or painted. Definitely don't try to weld on it. Be careful brushing it because I'm sure it is very brittle.

I was in the ER yester, and finally got home at 9:38 pm. Today I am wearing a 24 hr heart ECG heart monitor that is to be returned to the cardiology lab tomorrow. I had a very good ER Dr who found that my potassium level was way too high. Used an IV infusion of insulin followed immediately with 3 or 4 oz of sticky glucose to bring the level back to normal. Today my BPs were all normal. Looks like I am finally going to get to the bottom of my heart issues by forcing the issue through the emergency dept.

It was a really nice sunny and warm day with meltwater running off the farm fields and through the ditches along the highways. Got to 50F at the city airport, 55F in the city, and 52F here in the village. I had to use the fresh air vents in the van on the way home. Forecast shows tomorrow is only going to be 39F with 30% flurries at night.

I had a pleasant drive to the County Food Bank in Picture Butte this morning and came home with a nice hamper of food and toiletries, including a frozen rotisserie chick.

I'll post updates Roger. Right now my hands are full of other business and personal priorities.

That's a good sign Roger to get to the bottom of the problems.

We do rotisserie chickens often too. I'll boil the left overs for noodle soup.

Yuppers I think it's probably an old lamp holder I agree with Roger do not try to weld it it's probably cast iron and that's very brittle stuff especially when it's old

I'll just brush it up and see if I can pin it somehow.

That looks like a great piece to restore. Welding it might work as a better hold if U r putting a lantern on it again. Depending on how frail the metal is once U clean it up !.
I've been falling asleep early at night lately myself. Keeps me from eating crap at night ! LOL

Mmmm It is next to impossible to weld on cast iron.... the best we can do is drill into it then fit a pin with crazy glue.

I am afraid I had not free time today to work on it unfortunately.
