Coming up soon

Coming up soon is St. Patrick's Day !

You may have noticed in your local markets the low priced cabbage and corned beef. When you get your corned beef make certain you wash it in plenty of fresh water.

Then place in your roaster fatty side down. I season my corned beef with mustard seeds and crushed black pepper. NO SALT ! The corned beef is soaked in brine.

Add your favorite veggies like potatoes, turnips, carrots and of course cabbage. Add some water then bring to a rolling boil before simmering a couple hours.

You will have this deeeeelish meal for St. Patrick's Day...even if you're not Irish! The corned beef is also excellent sliced cold for sandwiches... if any survives dinner. A cold brisk day here 29 F... -1 C The wind in the afternoon had 40 MPH gusts so I stayed in the house. I have not felt well the whole day conducting my business by phone. Also put together several bids to be mailed out tomorrow.

That sounds like it would end up with a delish meal, but I have already started preparation of a pork pot roast for the 16th and 17th.I'm going to start the cooking process on the 15th, so I can be with my company on the 16th and 17th, and we can just plate up our meals and nuke them.

When I woke up it was 14F with 1.5" of new snow. By mid afternoon the temp had climbed to a bright, sunny 47F with very light and variable wind. A beautiful day and most of the morning snow melted. I spent about an hour shoveling older snow off the E deck and out of the parking spaces close to the door, so my guests have room to park. I drove the old Ford into a snow bank to make even more room.

We are to be much warmer tomorrow with it up to 48 F here but strong winds predicted. I need to wash cars and pickups to get the salt off as best I can. JD needs to clean feedbunkss too.

I prefer bacon and cabbage to corned beef. Fish and chips for me this St. Patrick's Day . Enjoy your corned beef and cabbage.
