SOUP & Sandwich Winter is about over, however, so many of our lunches consist of a bowl of Soup and a sandwich. We both like dunking our grilled cheese sandwich into a bowl of tomato soup. Yesterday I tossed a chicken breast on in the morning then cut it up with kitchen sheers with a few veggies and an assortment of pasta noodles. Simple, basic, but so dang good. Not every day am I able to make soup for us and I grab a can or *two of store bought soup, open, heat, and eat. There are so many varieties to choose from on the market. **** A QUERY **** ??? **** What is your favorite soup to eat? |

Today our cheese sandwich was made with shedded Colby / jack cheese along with tomato soup. There is half a shelf in our pantry devoted to canned soups of all varieties and brands. When ever there is a sale on a given brandy I will grab a bunch. Tomato, Chicken noodle, beef veggie, bean with bacon, even beef stews to put over rice. JD also loves my Minestrone, but that is kind of a dinner soup at the end of the day where we may kick back and enjoy. In the summer JD enjoys what I call California Veggie made with fresh veggies from the garden and farmer's market. Opening a can of soup is so easy and handy when your pressed for time I'd like to know what you enjoy.

The thing I don't like about canned soups is they are quite often high in sodium. Also the flavor isn't the same as home made soups. I do buy Habitat pea soup with ham. I have that quite often for a meal at night as it is quite hearty. and light. Plus so many soups have a lot of sugar in them. So I am constantly reading labels on cans.

About every two months or so, there will be a great sale on Progresso or Campbell Chunky soups....'great' like 4/$5.00, with a 12 can limit. The sale lasts for a week, enough time to get to the store at least twice to get 12 cans at a time...enough to have soup as often as we want and not run out before the next sale. When not on sale, the cost/can gets up to close to $3.00 My personal favorite is the Progresso Rich & Hearty, New England Clam Chowder.

My favorite canned soup is Campbell's New England Clam Chowder, but at 0ver $3 a can, I haven't bought any for years. I get a lot of soup from the food bank in an assortment of different flavors. For lunch, I prefer a salad with my sandwich.

Home made vegetable soup is my favourite served with crusty rolls or brown bread and butter. Soup is such a tasty heart warming dish on a cold winters day. I wonder how long this comment takes to show.
