W0W !!! W0W !!! Wind is GUSTY at 45MPH .. 72KPH ! We are seriously considering a wind turbine. No... not one of those BIG, Noisy Monsters. They have smaller vertical models that deliver 220 volts for about $500. Of course there's a bunch of installation costs but with our electric bills the turbine could pay for itself in a matter of months. We might even be able to add electric heating to the house as well. Kind of a funky lawn ornament ! |

In a matter of a few days of "warm" temps our snow has disappeared with the heavy rains added in. The frozen ground has not allowed the moisture to sink in... running OFF and filling our ditches streams, and rivers. If I get a chance I am driving down to get a look at the river and maybe post a picture. Currently 39 F... 4 C here in North Central Iowa.

Hang on to that lamp post Bret, and let go of the umbrella, for god's sake. LOL! That's some pretty awesome wind you got.

Talk to a person in the know (electrician) before you go purchasing a wind turbine. A small one may put out the voltage required, but you need to know the amperage it produces and measure that against the amperage draw your farm requires. You will need charge controllers, a large battery bank, and inverters to change the DC battery voltage to AC current that is required in your home. It can turn into a very expensive venture quickly.

Love the pink flaming O's. I bet that isn't your green lawn in February.

After a bit of meltation yesterday, the temperature today is only 28F, so it is only melting where the sun shines on the roof or dark pavement. The wind is from the SE at 12 mph.

There was an issue of popular mechanics way back before your time, that had an article about putting those little ones next to a busy road. The wind created by the vehicles going by powered the turbines
