Eggy

This morning I got a double yoke egg.

Double-yolk eggs are a byproduct of rapid ovulation. That means two yolks are released in quick succession into a hen's oviduct (aka fallopian tube) and end up in the same shell. Typically, yolks are released about an hour apart, but hormonal changes or a hyperactive ovary will cause double releases.

When was the last time you had a Double Yoke Egg???

[image1] Wiki says 1 in a 1000 have this feature mostly occurring from young hens who are learning to "lay eggs." They also imbue "Good Luck." Currently 13 F.... -10 C here with clear sky and a bit of a breeze.

I get them every once in awhile, usually when a hen is over a year old and the eggs are larger. What is really weird is when you crack open an egg and there is no yolk at all. In all my decades of raising birds, that has happened to me only twice.

A Happy Groundhog's Day to you too Seren. The OFF season for farm eggs right now... City eggs the chickens don't get any scratch, bugs and corn to make good flavored eggs.

My birds have slowed down a bit these past couple of weeks, but I still get about 3 eggs a day so far. No green eggs at all, only white eggs from the Leghorns.

The yolkless eggs are usually from a young pullet when they start laying, the eggs are small, really small, so you won't get those from grocery store eggs. They have a lot of names to describe them, LOL, one of them is a "Fart" egg.

We seldom get many pullet eggs; I think JD's mom feeds them to her dog. Most our eggs are brown or the colored ones from her Guinea hens. We're up to 19F ... -7 C ... think I'll grab my teeshirt and shorts !

When I was growing up and lived on the farm we had hens. I recall a time or two we had double yolks. They were a bonus and especially when my mother was making homemade noodles. They were probably from more mature hens.

I have had a few double yokers, even in store bought eggs. I like them because the yoke is the best part of the egg, IMO.

It was a cold day, clear, E wind. I went to the city for a Dr appt and xray of my right foot's bone spur. I came home with a 4L jar of milk costing $6.26 a nd some anti-depressant pills called Venlafaxine. The Dr and nurse spent a full hour evaluating me before consulting with my pharmacist to prescribe a suitable drug.

Around 3:47 pm, the wind switched from the E to the W and the temp jumped to 39F. As of 7:35 pm, it is still blowing from the W and the temp is 35F. The snow cover is shrinking.

Roger hope the pills do the trick. What is a bone spur?
