for Rocketship

Rocketship a few days ago you posted a cute comic depicting the entrance to Hell. I remembered a couple lines from Virgil;

The Gates of Hell are open Night and Day

Smooth is the decent and easy the way.

But to return, and view the cheerful skies,

In this the task the mighty labor lies.

Rocketship I am so sorry not to post soon and your blog is about to drop off the main list. I wanted you to see the poetry by the ancient poet Virgil. I am afraid I've been pretty sick and when I did feel well I was so far behind.

Here's the quote in Latin as written;

facilis descensus Auerno:
noctes atque dies patet atri ianua Ditis;
sed reuocare gradum superasque euadere ad auras,
hoc opus, hic labor est.

If I may correct a few typos

facilis descensus averno - it is easy to descend into the place devoid of birds (a poetic description of Hell )

Sed revocare grad(i)um superasque evadere ad auras, - but to return and view the cheerful skies.

I did not mean for that little cartoon to promote a religious discussion although its origins are probably religious in nature. I thought it was funny because I grew up hearing that saying.

A place without birds certainly would be hell......

Since dad died I have not discussed much Latin, but thanks for commenting.

Very interesting. I am not one to involve myself in religious discussion, so shall avoid any commentary.

I went to the County Food Bank today and had my pick of some pretty good food. Tonight after supper, I baked a cherry-chip/vanilla cake and iced it with white frosting. It is now chilling in the cold room and I will slice off a piece in an hour or so for my dessert treat. It is +18F here tonight and will get to close to the melting point tomorrow. I just came back from cat sitting. The cats hate me and the feeling is mutual. Last night one of them dug the dirt out of a large planter and spread it all over the floor. I did not clean it up. Their treats were restricted tonight.

"F" the cats Roger and leave the mess. I'd kick Pumpkin if he ever did something like that.
