FIX... Fix... fix...

Every now and then I get a stupid idea to "FIX" something. I'd had a small chip out of a corner of a slate block in my kitchen floor. I was dumb and didn't take a "Before" picture.

I mixed some oil based multi-purpose Black Enamel paint with some Portland Cement.

I leveled in the chipped area. Then cleaned away the excess. Once it is cured I will clean the edged area better.

I set a chair over the repair to keep our quadrupedic family from walking on the repair until it is dried.\

After 10 days and MANY loads of dishes NO LEAKS to my repair.

I don't think anyone has driven on our road. We've only gotten 3-4" of snow but it is blowing and drifting. I had the fireplace roaring but the gas furnace has kicked on several times to maintain a reasonable temperature in this old dump. Current temp is -7 F ... -21 C and very gusty winds.

Good thinking on the tile repair. I have done similar fixes on various things. It's the power of inventive thinking.

I had to drive to the city twice today because of an oversight on someone else's part. I finally found some celery, but still could not find eggnog. Now I am broke and there is almost no gas in the yellow taxi, so I am not going anywhere until the end of Jan.

It was -35C this morning with a wind chill of -50C. As of 4:11 pm it is -29C, with a stiff SW wind. Not very pleasant out, but at least the sky is sunny. I will be having ham fried rice for supper at 5:00.

This site is responding extremely slowly today. Wonder if the cold weather across the nation is affecting it's performance.

I'd patched in another area on a slate tile where the blend of cement and black paint filled in nicely.

No idea what the windchills are but not going out to check it. I took a nap with Ronnie this afternoon and getting a nice snooze.

When you're done there, I have a laundry room floor that needs to be replaced. Too cold to work on it now!!

Temp right now is 13F and the chill factor is -6 below!! My furnace hasn't shut off since I turned it on. Lost power today at 10:30AM and didn't get it back till 5PM. Temps here dropped from 42F to 20F in about 2 hours once the Arctic blast hit, the same time I lost power.

This big old drafty dump takes two furnaces besides the fireplace to heat it. Built of native wood harvested from the property, there are oak & black walnut studs and flooring.

Nope, no frozen water lines, I kept going over to the kitchen sink and running the water to make sure of that. LOL, a few years ago my hot water line froze up. Plenty of cold water, but no hot water to take a shower!

Here the water lines run parallel with forced air heated lines... if there is water there should be heat to prevent freezing.
