Winter Solstice Winter solstice 2022 occurs on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at 4:48 p.m. EST ( 16:48 ) for the Northern Hemisphere. DO NOT go rushing it at Dawn! There are observatories built for the exact time these dates occur. It’s the astronomical moment when the Sun reaches the Tropic of Capricorn, we have our shortest day and longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere in terms of daylight. Irregardless of what the weather is doing outside your window, the solstice marks the official start of winter. This is for those who won't be hanging around Stonehenge tomorrow. |

NO IT IS NOT AT DAWN !!!!!! I get sooo sick of illiterate morons who can't tell time nor look at a calendar. Do You really think the Solar System Runs by a CLOCK in the Whitehouse Living-room?

Does that explain how Santa arrives around the world at the same time?

Thanks for the reminder that the start of winter is in a few hours from now. I just got back from the city. Temperature -29C, wind chill -44C. Streets are solid ice with piles of snow down the center. Highways are clear but there is drifting snow obscuring the road surface. I managed to snag a few groceries, but produce is non-existent or in very poor condition. Bread and buns on the shelf was still frozen. No orange juice or egg nog. No wheat squares cereal, so I had to settle for wheat flakes. I had almost forgotten how to drive the yellow taxi and driving in the city frightened me. I was happy to get home in time to make soup and sandwich for lunch.

We been fighting the weather the whole day here. The forecasted Snow really didn't start here until 4 PM ... The guys got in a whole day of work virtually unhindered. The "Winter Weather Advisory" had started at Noon. 4 hours lost.. or wasted had we listened to them. Trucks and guys are all in safe and at home. Making JD his meatloaf as he asked for, baked potatoes and some veggie... he may determine that; however, I bet it is green beans.

Glad that you were able to get some grain hauled to market. It is important to keep the income stream flowing. Bad weather can freeze up that stream.
