Dismal Day (part II) IF you see any color in your chopped veggies.... THE SOUP IS NOT COOKED ! Boil the veggies until they are cooked clear giving all their flavor to the broth. Hope you baked a loaf of homemade bread or bought some dry crusty Italian bread at the bakery. Dish up your soup and place a 1" slab of that Italian bread. Watch how your rich broth is absorbed into the slice. I top my bread with a blend of grated cheeses. It's like dipping a cheese sandwich into your hot soup! Enjoy! |

Hidden away inside the house!

Tucked away inside is the place to be during a cold ice storm. We got some snow here this morning, but it has stopped for now with the sky partly cloudy. Temp is -4F, wind chill of -15F. I walked over to my friend's after lunch but did not take the doggy for a walk. It is just too cold for a 5 lb dog. The soup with some thick bread soaked in it sounds like the best meal on a cold winter's day. I had soup and sandwich for lunch too, then some tender and delicious Ukrainian cabbage rolls for supper. Oh yes! So good, thanks to my Ukrainian neighbor lady.

I was very privileged to receive a delivery of a Christmas hamper from the County Food Bank this morning. 3 big boxes full of everything I needed for Christmas dinner including a 12.5 lb turkey. Also got toiletries and kitchen cleaners, dish soap. Tooth brush and tooth paste. Mandarin oranges, spuds, box of chocolates, hot chocolate, cake mixes, and on and on. I was so happy to be given all this, and to have it delivered to my door and carried inside. I actually cried as I was unboxing it all.

The weather forecast calls for extreme cold with high wind chills for the next week. The cold could moderate somewhat by Christmas day. I hope my furnaces stay working during this cold snap. I hope the weather improves in your neck of the woods soon.
