Optional  If given the option............  Would you rather fly in a plane  or ride in a passenger train? |

What is optional tonight? I would like to say shovelling snow is optional, but it won't be for me in the morning. We are getting another 8" tonight and tomorrow.

Well, I've never been on a train of any kind, let alone a passenger train. I don't think we have regular passenger trains in Canada anymore. I've been on planes and found them cramped and uncomfortable. Personally, I'd prefer to ride in an automobile.

I decided some time ago never to fly again, so I would definitely opt for a passenger train.

Nationwide passenger services are provided by the federal crown corporation Via Rail. Three Canadian cities have commuter train services: in the Montreal area by Exo, in the Toronto area by GO Transit, and in the Vancouver area by West Coast Express.

I WOULD MUCH PREFER THE TRAIN. AT LEAST IT IS ON THE GROUND. PLANES HAVE NEVER BEEN MY THING ALTHOUGH I HAVE TAKEN QUITE A FEW. WITH A FAIR NUMBER OF INCIDENTS I WILL NEVER FORGET.

My choice would be the train, especially if it looked like the Orient Express on the picture. But in my case I have to book a flight to cross the Atlantic. In the past I decided for an upgraded class with more legroom and better service for the 9 to 10 hours in the air. Now the ticket prices are sky-rocked and many strange regulations keep me on hold. Either mode of travel has it's advantages and detractions. Your choice is based on what is currently best for you.

I've never heard of Via Rail, and I know for a fact it doesn't run through any cities near me. It can't be a very reliable service if no one knows it exists.
